Torchwood: Instant Karma

Hey guys,

welcome to the 23rd adventure of Big Finish Torchwood ‘instant Karma’ with Toshiko Sato. She developed algorithms to find patterns. This patterns lead her to a group of people.

Anger

It is a group to help people who have this anger in them. But it doesn’t seem like it really helps them but that the leader is using them. I mean it is so easy. How many times were you angry at people. Go to the supermarket and there is a 50% chance that someone does something that annoys you. I work in the gastronomy. How time do I want slap our guest because they make a stupid comment or they be aggressive to you. This anger this story is about that is an anger that everyone knows.
Obviously we don’t want to kill them. But if you have this ‘gift’. So easy to give in to this anger. If you give in this anger. Anger can become so fast hatred.

The danger of charismatic people

This story is not just about anger but about people who are charismatic and tries to use this. People that can talk can be so dangerous. With this anger and charisma it is easy to make people follow you. Because they want to believe. But it is so easy to lose control. This story is so close to reality. I mean they have abilities but even without this ‘gifts’ it something that happens. charismatic people are out there using the anger, hurt of other people for their benefits.

happy endings

When you look at the stories of Toshiko Sato there is always such a sad end. She lost so much and still tries to believe so hard in people. It is a gift and a curse for Tosh. This need to help and save everyone and so often failing not because not good in what she does but because humans are not that good. I love her so much and I love that adventure.

3 will be free

Hey Guys,

welcome to a series from Thailand ‘3 will be free’. Actually I found the series because I watched ‘Dark Blue Kiss’ and loved Tay Tawan Vihokratana as Pete. So I did what I always do when I loved an actor in series. I start watching the other series they played in. So I landed here. ‘3 will be free’ was really great.

The begining

Actually the first two episodes are not that good in my eyes. Neo one of the main characters is not my favorite and I just don’t like the whole story with him sleeping and loving the step-mom of the other main character Shin. But it is kinda necessary to get the story rolling. The story is kinda easy. Shins father is something a like a big ‘mafia’ boss. When he finds out that his wife is sleeping with Neo and send his killers to kill him. Shin has a crush on Neo and is often in the club Neo is working. The third member of the group is Miw. She works in the club next to the club Neo is working. Long story short Shin and Miw get involved in this situation. Miw is killing one of killers and the run.

On the road

Shins father is not happy about it and wants Neo and Miw dead. So three of them are on them are on the run. They search for a way to stay alive. This is actually were starts to get good. All the characters are so imperfect and have so many flaws. That you just have to them. Shin is my favorite one and also the one that don’t really fit. Neo and Miw have similar lives and believe in the same things. Shin on the other hand has a lot of many and is a little naive. He never want to be like her father and wished for being an artist.
Also he is the only with out a reason to be on the run. Because wound kill him. Still he chooses to go with them and help them.

About friendship and love

The story is about a friendship that start between these three people. How they start to trust each other and fight for each other. We see friendship became love and how much people are ready to sacrifice for each other. I really love the relationship between these three that the don’t put labels on. To see them grow as a person and grow in their relationship.

The side story

We also got to see the story about one of the killers. Ter is the killer that chases after the three of them. It is not just the job that makes him run after them. The killer the three of them killed was Ters best friend and also likes his brother so he and the girlfriend of the dead killer wants revenge. Mae is a good person but she is so hurt that she wants to hurt others to feel her pain. I don’t like this story very much but it has his sweet moments.

DW: The War Machines – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome the last adventure of the 3rd Season of Doctor Who ‘The War Machines’. Steven already left the TARDIS so the Doctor is traveling with Dodo. Dodo seems even through all she been through was capable of saving her joyful self. But the Doctor is not traveling long like this. We get introduced to Polly and Ben. I really love these two.
It takes place in July 1966 in London.

WOTAN

WOTAN is a computer who know everything even what TARDIS means and can think on his own. Something we got a lot of movies and series about. The machine deciding to take over the world from the humans. WOTAN get his helpers by hypnosis and let the human work for their own destruction. Also the computer seems to know about the Intelligence of the Doctor.

Ben and Polly

I really loved them from the first moment. She has kind soul. She cares about people and feels responsible from them. But she is also a very happy person. Polly likes fun and humor. Friendship means a lot to her. Even when she does know Ben for like two days, she cares and would not betray him. Ben is a little more… sullen? He is responsible and realize very fast when a situation turns dangerous. But he also tries to help and don’t let anyone behind.

A good end

This adventure changes a lot. We not just get new companions. The Doctor is taking sides and got involved on his own will. When we started Doctor Who the Doctor didn’t get involved. He just get himself into problems and tries to get out alive. Th Doctor don’t save people, he didn’t care about them. His travels with Barbara and Ian changed him.
Now we have a Doctor that actually try to save people and get’s involved in things. So this is a great way to end the 3rd Season because the 4th season with the 2nd Doctor. He will always get involved.

DW: The City of Spires

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 133rd Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The City of Spires’ with the sixth Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon. What can be better than another Doctor meeting one of the best companions ever. I really love Jamie. Jamie is like the Doctors best friend. The dates in this story are really complicated and I can’t say so much about the time with telling to much. What I can say is that Doctor things that Jamie looks like it was twenty or thrity years ago. It is taking place in Scottland.

The most alive person he met

Jamie and the Doctor parted in ‘The War Games‘. The Time Lords made Jamie forget everything about the Doctor except the first time they met. For Jamie it is like he never choose to travel with the Doctor. I still think that his and Zoe (and Donna) have one of the saddest endings. But all that is not part of this article. The Doctor is meeting Jamie again. What puts the Doctor a little of is that Jamie don’t remember him or better the other him. There are no memories of Polly or Ben. Jamie is a little different. The Doctor says that Jamie was one of the most alive persons he met. But now Jamie don’t have much hope and even when he still fights he thinks that they are already dead.

Nothing made sense

All the information given doesn’t make much sense. The Doctor realizes which figths this are but this doesn’t work with the time he things had gone by since he and Jamie had to part ways. Jamie not remembering him is another thing. But since when is there a Overlord and why are there oil-pumping maschines. For people like me that know almost nothing about Scotlands history you got the big mistakes like I already mentioned but there are a few names that appear and doesn’t seem to fit. I really love how this story plays out. It is like the travels with Klein or the Mila storyline. It is a three parter. So we don’t find all the answer and let us want to know how this will all play out.

The Omega Factor: Drawn to the Dark

Hey Guys,

welcome the last adventure of the 3rd Box Set ‘Drawn to the Dark’. I am really sad that the series end here. I informed myself that there is still one new adventure it is an audio book. As soon as I have new money I will get it. This is a really good last story.

Black Outs

Anne get asked for help. Grace has black outs. She doesn’t remember anything but comes back dirty and with strange bottles. It seems that something is buried and Grace is trying to find it. Adam has a bad feeling about it. Something is down there and it isn’t anything good. It seems that this something wants to break out.
This time Adam has to use his abilities different from before and even Morag has to use different approaches.

Doyle

Finally Adam and Anne realize that Doyle is acting weird or weird than he had in the second Box Set. I really wished we had seen how Doyle had handled all that but Vanessa has her own plans. She also seems to know what is buried down there and she wants to use it for herself.
Maybe this is the thing about Omega, that everyone actually just wants the most power for his own. It doesn’t feel like the group is holding together. It is more like everyone working for himself.

The Darkness

This time our friends are up against the Darkness. It really feels like the great showdown. A few mysterious are coming to light. It is not an end. It gives us so much more questions and possibilities. There is so much more ahead. I still hope that Big Finish will at some point bring it back. There are so much more stories left to tell. So many things happened at the end and I want to see how they handle the consequences of this adventure. But it is also end you can live with…and sadly has to.

Lethbridge-Stewart: Mutually Assured Domination

Hey Guys,

I finally came round to read the fourth adventure of Lethbridge-Stewart ‘Mutually Assured Domination’. Yeah I know I get really confused with the order of the books. This book takes places after ‘Beast of Fang Rock‘ and before ‘Moon Blink‘. This time Lethbridge-Stewart is facing the Dominators which we know from Doctor Who ‘The Dominators’ with the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe.

Old acquaintance

In this adventure our Brig works with an old acquaintance that we also know from Doctor Who ‘The Web of Fear’. The Brig doesn’t have a good opinion about the journalist Harlod Chorley. But Chorley stumbles over a few coincidences that all seems to conact to Dominex.
I really like the dynamic between Chorley and Lethbridge-Stewart. The gone both through the same together and handle it really differently. I kinda hope to find them working together more often. Sadly Bill Bishop at in this adventure a really small role.

Dominex

Dominex Industries is a nuclear waste firm that promise cheap energy. People in high places are blended by this promise and make it really hard for the Brig to act against them. The story itself is not one of my favorites. But I love the characters and how the interact with each other. I love to see the Brigs calling friends that are ready to fight with him without much question asked. They are great characters and I love how the old chaps are ready to follow our young Lethbridge-Stewart.

A win

Finally we are at the point were Lethbridge-Stewart is official starting to built UNIT. He is choosing his team and I am real love to meet all this characters again. I already love his team so much. So yeah I will start read the next book as soon as possible. Hopefully I will read the right one next.

DW: The Gunfighters – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome the 8th adventure of the 3rd season of Doctor Who ‘The Gunfighters’. He travels with Steven and Dodo. The story takes place in the year 1888 in the small town Tombstone. “The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon” was specially written for this adventure. This is one of the history episode that actually is not historical accurate.

Wild West

It is a story about the Wild West. Actually I never really understood the fascination everyone had the wild west. The story doesn’t change it. It has bars and guns… and I don’t know what is so interesting in any of that. So I don’t have much knowledge about this time. I heart of Doc Holiday but I don’t know anything about him Johnny Ringo. Most of the time I want to inform myself about the stuff the Doctor shows us but not with this…I just don’t care much about this episode.

The Doctor and the Doc

A few people want to kill Doc Holiday. He uses the Doctor to make people believe the Doctor is Doc Holiday. The three of them just try to get out of this alive. When everyone wants to see them death. Dodo get captured by Doc Holiday and she has really trouble to deal with all the death around her. With only the view adventures seeing with her I think she hasn’t made for traveling in the TARDIS. But that makes her really interesting.

So much shooting

The story is for me to much shooting and killing people. This definitely is not my favorite story. But seeing Steve and Dodo together I really wished she had more episode with them. They could be really cool and interesting. Sadly the episode is not. It also means that there is are just adventure with the Doctor left. Steven how ever will not be in The War Maschines. He has is departure in ‘The Savages’.

DW: The Architects of History

Hey Guys,

welcome the 132nd Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Architects of History’ with the seventh Doctor and Klein. The story takes place in 2044 in an alternate reality. Klein used the TARDIS to build a new Reich by creating new time lines again and agin until she likes it.

The web of time

Klein is using the TARDIS to eliminate traitors or other threats before they come up. She abusive the power she got. She had built a new Reich but it is never quiet right so she never stops. But in this story so many things happen that she hadn’t seen in the future. There are two ‘rebels’ that worked against Klein. We have the Doctor in a cell and three big ships of the Selachians. But the biggest problem for Klein is that the TARDIS gets destroyed.

The dark in the people

This story shows us again new sides of Klein. Who she is and who she became to get want she wants and never quiet get it. But we also get to see the darkest sides of the Doctor. How he manipulated and make alliance with people he shouldn’t. It even makes the Doctor uneasy. He doesn’t want to be this person. But in the end it is him. It is a part of him and he can’t erase it. He can and most likely will fight against this side over and over again.

Listen or not

I love it. The fight inside the Doctor. He wants to save everyone but he also need to repair the damage Klein did and he can’t do both. It is great. Klein and the Doctor trying to out smart each other. Both always on their heals to be not manipulate by the other. It is a really good story to end the story around Klein.

The Omega Factor: Phantom Pregnancy

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 3rd adventure of the 3rd Box Set ‘Phantom Pregnancy’. This is a really good story. It is shows us so many sides of our characters. They found a woman levitating. She is a refugee and comes to Department 7 because of the levitating.

Scientist

The woman Tatara is not only levitating but also caring a child. Anne things that she only have the power because of the pregnancy. She is really excited because she feels like there are shortly before a break throw. That are the reason Anne lost herself a little in her work.
Adam on the side is on edge the whole time. He is always tiered and looses his temper and has cramps.

On edge

The interesting thing about the story is the tensions between Anne and Adam. They have really different approaches. They worked very well together the last times. But she scientist and he just want to save and help people. You got the feeling that Adam is becoming unsatisfied with his situation.
Morag also have not an easy job protecting Adam. I like that Morag and Anne just would do everything to protect and save Adam. He is so important to many people.

I really like the episode. Like I said before this Box Set has only great episodes. This is actual my favorite Box Set. The atmosphere is not always dark but it always get that dangerous vibe at the end. That something is coming, like the end is near. In a way it is right since this is the last Box set and the next adventure the last.

DW: Ripper’s Curse

Hey Guys,

welcome to the IDW DW Vol 2 ‘Ripper’s Curse’ with the eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory. This story takes place at the 30th September 1888 and 9th November 1888. Like the name says it is about Jack the Ripper. The story goes over three chapters. What I like the most about this story are the drawings. I really like the style.

A typical Ripper case

Jack the ripper is a really interesting murder case. There are so many different takes on what happened and who he murder was. I think almost everyone had seen the movie with Johnny Depp ‘From Hell’ but this is just one of the many movies, series and books that had used the mysteries around Jack the Ripper. Now it is Doctor Who turn and sadly I am disappointed.

I don’t to say much about the story of this comic. Because everyone know the story. The Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive when the third victim was found. The Doctor actually find out really fast what is going on. There is no investigation to find out found is going on. They just throw a few names around. Also the dilemma of letting a person die to protect the bigger picture… to protect the web of time, doesn’t have a big role.

The don’t take time to explore this feeling of guilt or the consequences Amy’s interference had. No they just let it slide with sometime times just heals themself. I had hoped for something like in the episode ‘Rosa’. That you actually see and feel the emotions the regret, the curse of doing nothing. Sadly nothing of it comes here into play. The ripper case is closed.

Sadly for it wasn’t the best take on this story. I have seen a lot better versions. But did I told you how amazing the drawings are? They are really lovely.
