DW: Forty-Five

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 115th Big Finsih Main Range Adventure ‘Forty-Five’ with the the seventh Doctor with Ace and Hex. This story is actually for four differnet stories. We had adventure like that before for example Circular Time and 100. It should celebrated Forty-Five years of Doctor Who. So the number Forty-Five is playing a role in every story.

False God

The first story of Forty-Five takes place in 1902 in egypted. They met Howard Carter on his search fo the lost tomb of Userhat. The interessting part is that Hex is hearing a calling that none of the other can hear. What I really love is that this Doctor is not playing favorites.

Order of Simplicity

This story is taking place in the 3380 on the planet Sphere of Influence. There is a mysterious code that the Doctor should solve. But the problem is that everyone that reads this code gets infected by a virius that reduces your IQ to 45.

Casualties of War

The third story of Forty-Five takes place in 9th May 1945 in London the celebration of the end of the second world war. For Ace this is a special adventure because Ace and her mother grow up in this street – in the house next door.

The Word Lord

The last story takes place in the year 2045 in the second cold war that seems to lead to the state of affair seen in ‘Warriors of the Deep’. There is murder in a top secret base and the Doctor and his friends need to find the murder.

DW: Brotherhood of the Daleks

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 114th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘Brotherhood of the Daleks’ with the sixth Doctor and Charley. In the story itself is no actual date given, but with all the clues given in the story AHistory place it around 5426. Like the title says it is Dalek story but we also met again the race of the Thals – who found a new home on the planet Spiridon.

Secrets

Charley is really bad at keeping secrets and act not suspicious. She is so obvious. But it is still fun to listen to try to explain her knowledge. What I like the most about this is that even when the Doctor and Charley seem to be close – to be friend. There is still is thing between them. This in a way he trusts her and in a way he don’t. I don’t know. I just like relationship full opposites.
The story starts with these two making contact with a group of Thals. Something is off. One of the women seems to react to the words ‘blue box’ and Charlotte Pollard. Obviously the Thals know about the Doctor and the TARDIS but for them it is more like a fairy tale than real history.
The fun part is that there is a bigger reaction to the name Charlotte Pollard than to Blue Box. The Story has a few hints of an early story ‘Terror Firma‘ the last encounter form Charley and the Daleks.

What is real

It is quiet complicated to explain the story without spoiling too much. If you listen to this adventures when you do different things than maybe you should sit done and do nothing except listing. It is not so complicated but it has a lot layers. What is the truth and what is illusion. Are they really at Spiridon? Or where are they and what is really going on there. That is why I actually love this story. Maybe listen a second time to get what you missed.

The Tenth Doctor Adventures: The Creeping Death

Hey Guys,

welcome to the last part of The Tenth Doctor Adventure ‘The Creeping Death’ with the lovely Donna Noble and the tenth Doctor. For the last story we get my favorite stories, which is like you all know the historical ones. This time we get the Great Smog of London 5th December 1952. When I first visited London with my class, our teachers talked about the smog problems and the Clean Air Act and how you can see it on the buildings and it is also the reason that mostly Taxi busses are driving in the city. We didn’t about the death our anything else.

More than smog

The Doctor and Donna find themself in the start of the Great Smog. Obviously the Doctor is wandering of and meets Ivy, who just visited all people in the cinema die. Some would thing that it was the smog that got really bad at this point. But there is also something else in the air. Something the Doctor fight – the Fumifugium.

Great Characters

Donna met Terry a young man who is on his way to his boyfriend Richard. The characters are actually really great. Ivy the young girl in love with this man Richard, that goes to work no matter what because she needs the money. Terry is hitting it of with Donna. It is really fun to listen to them. Malcolm an old salesman with got ideas and obviously Richard. It is great group and they are all having their part in this fight. Nobody is the damsel in distress. The fight and save each other by actually working with each other.

A great end

The creeping Death is a really great last story for the boy set. It is dramatic, sad and fun. It has all of it. The characters are amazing and it would be fun to listen to another adventure in this combination. So for everyone that hasn’t listened to this stories should totally do it. It is amazing.

DW: The Doomwood Curse

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 111st Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Doomwood Curse’ with the sixth Doctor and Charley. The story takes place in the 1738 in England. It is a story about reality and fantasy. It is about the legendary highwayman Dick Turpin. In the Doctor Who universe he was bad criminal that got romanticized be the book ‘Rockwood’.

The dynamic

Something is really wrong in London 1738. The Doctor and Charley arrive there and something of. It is fun to hear Doctor trying to figure Charley out and still he already knows her enough to realize that something is wrong that she is acting off. It doesn’t end with Charley. All the people start acting weird. People dying of curses and sudden marriages will hold the Doctor on his heels. Everything turns overdramatic and overacted just like in an old romantic story.

Just to dramatic

The biggest problem with this is the overdramatic and overacting – even when it is totally intended to be like this. Thief that still from the rich to give it the poor. Falling in love with your sister that got kidnapped years ago. We kill everyone and we curses people. It is just not my kind of story. I love Charley but sometimes she goes on my nerves with overdramatic view of things and now she changed in this girl who is so overdramatic and naive.

Great Idea

I really like the idea of the story. It is just couldn’t it be a modern story? Okay have to admit it wouldn’t work so well with a modern story. All the part of the story fit to the idea behind it perfectly. Even when I don’t like these kinda of stories so much, it brings us great scenes between the Doctor and Charley and their evolving friendship.

DW: Assassin in the Limelight

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 108th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘Assassin in the Limelight’ with the sixth Doctor and Evelyn. The Story takes place on the 14th April 1865 – yes on the day Lincoln got shot. The Story starts with the mystery of Oscar Wilde being around older than 2 years that he schould be. Nothing is like it seems in this story.

Change the history

It is not really a surprise that Oscar Wilde is not the real Oscar Wilde. We find out that he is infact an old enemy of the Doctor we meet before in Medicinal Purpose. That would be Knox. The last time we saw him he got infected by his own virius. Now he is here and all we know is that he plans about the killing of the president. Since he killed the original killer.

Play your part

The story is about question over question. Who will kill Lincoln? Does Knox really fall love? What is actually going on? I mean come on it is Knox. Do we really believe that he wants to save the life of woman? Knox who is ready kill everyone for money? ‘Assassin in the Limelight’ unfoldes itself slowly with every step our protagonist make. Something I saw coming and other I really didn’t.

Historical Events

It is a historical story and I really love those stories. Aspecially with a character like Evelyn. She understands and cares about history and she can see the bigger picture. But one the other hand she so good and sensitive that she wants to save everyone and forgets the bigger picture of the fate of a single woman. She makes the moral delimma so real and I just love her and her big heart that have to take so much on the travels with Doctor and still she always goes on.
