DW: The Harvest

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 58th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – The Harvest. It featured the seventh Doctor and Ace. We also met for the first time Hex Scofield the new companion of the Doctor. This story takes place in London 2021 October the 12th, which also Hex birthday. What is also kind of important is that this story is the last part of a trilogy. The other parts are The Reaping with the sixth Doctor and Peri and The Gathering with the fifths Doctor and Tegan.

The triology

I really loved the other two stories. They were about cybermen and what life means. They were great and now we have the last part of the story. This story can definitely stand alone. You just see it as the final part when you really listen to the other two. It has nothing directly to do with Cathy – or not with the Cathy from the other two parts. When you haven’t listen to the stories this story is even more surprising because you didn’t know from the start that this about cybermen. But it also doesn’t disturb the story.

Never have seen through real eyes

Like I said in the beginning we met Thomas Hector Scofield in this story. It is his birthday and it is a real bad day for him. He works in the hospital as a nurse. When a good friend of him get wheeled in the A&E and dies. On his birthday party on this evening he meets Ace – who is undercover working in the hospital – and got attacked by a really fast man.
From that point Hex is lost. He is involved and he just can’t walk away. So I think he is perfect for these two.
The other part of the story is a man waking up from surgery. This man is feeling and seeing for the first time and he seem really happy about it.

Listen to it or not

Yes, listen to it. It is an amazing trilogy. I love Hex from the first moment. He is fun and totally over his head. After he met the Doctor is like ‘Oh my god’ all the time. But he never backs out. He is with the Doctor and Ace from the start till the end. He is panicking but also he is getting things done. What I really love about is that the Doctor and Ace accept him from the start. It is not like C’rizz where neither the Doctor nor Charley are really letting him become part of the group.

DW: The Twilight Kingdom

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 55th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – The Twilight Kingdom. It featured the eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz. Like the adventures before this is set in the Divergent Universe. It is one of the better stories of this storyline.

What is going on

Like in the stories before the Doctor and his companions stumble through this different zones searching for the TARDIS. It seems that this time they find each other in a kind of war. The soldiers that takes them in are waiting to go to the front line of this war. But the place is different. It changes people. Without a really struggle the people of this base make a soldier kill this officer.

Let’s stay here

Of course the others C’rizz and Charley are also effected. Charley even more than C’rizz – at least at the start. It is about control and Charleys hurt feelings. The story brings up again the pain in Charley. For me it is a little bit annoying. This constantly wishing to be back at the beginning before Zagerus. Before they told each other that they love each other before the Doctor rejected her later.
It also makes it hard for C’rizz to really find his place in this group. Our characters are all put in a situation were they have to accept change. But all three of them kinda fight against it.

Listing or not

For me this is one of the better stories of this storyline. It is emotional and has a good story. So yeah go and listen to it. I love C’rizz and his interaction with the others of the group. The way they all try to deal with the new situations. It kinda shows us more about the characters and their maybe hiding feelings.

DW: The Natural History of Fear

Hey Guys,

welcome to the next adventures of Charley, C’rizz and the eighth Doctor in the 54th adventure of Big Finishs Main Range – The Natural History of Fear. The story takes place in the Divergent Universe. I really like C’rizz and the new dynamic he brings in between Charley and the Doctor. Like many stories in the Divergent Universe you are totally confused at the start of the story.

Is this still Doctor Who?

Yes of course it is. One thing that Big Finish always does amazingly is creating Doctor Who new. The story start with the three of them doing something they are not so sure about anymore. Following by a replay of the scene between the Doctor and Charley in the story ‘Zagerus‘. Than there is a cut and the voice of Charley is talking about a TV show. It isn’t Charley…or is it? If she is does she remember? C’rizz and the Doctor also speak characters that doesn’t seem to be the usual persons. I was utterly confused but you just have to let go of all this and just listen to it really carefully because it gets more confusing.

A new world

The world that is created here is a very cold and lonely world. Questions are forbidden and it seems like people can be overwritten. There are really strength rules. It remembers me a little bit about Psych Pass. But this story seems to want mainly just to confuse you and that does it brilliantly. We don’t know what happened to the Doctor and his friends, what is the meaning behind the story and how does this world is built. So many questions you are not allowed to ask.

Listen to it or not

The story is part of the Divergence universe. A small part to the big picture they are trying paint here. I was just confused the most of the time and the spark just didn’t sprung over. I still would listen to it because of the bigger picture of this whole storyline. But in the end I didn’t like the story very much.

Torchwood: Goodbye Piccadilly

Hey Guys,

I will about find my balance with my new job, my life and my blog, which brings me to one of my favorite stories of Big Finish this year – Torchwood: Goodbye Piccadilly. I heart it already so often but never found the time to write about it. It is a Torchwood adventure I waited for ‘three’ years! It takes place after Ghost Mission and is with Andi and Norton again. My new favorite ship of Torchwood.

I visited you. Now you visit me.

This time Norton brings Andi into the past. Norton is in a delicate situation and has to prove to Torchwood that he is not a traitor. Are we really sure he is traitor? I for sure don’t know which side he is one in the end. But that is the most amazing thing about Norton right. You just have to love him. You don’t know if you can trust him but you want to trust him.
Back to the actually story. Norton is allowed to choose one person to help him and he choose Andi, which brings Andi in a lot of unasked situations – like waking up naked chained to a bed with Norton.

My shipping heart can’t take it

It is dream. Andi and Norton totally start of were they left things the last time. The fight all the time and it is so much fun to listen to them. Norton is as helpful as always and Andi tries to find out what is going on. I love how Andi fight with Norton and totally knew that something wasn’t right with the things he told Andi but he still trusts him enough to actually help him. He as a respect for him that is amazing and the way he tries to understand more of him made my day. Norton is as open as always and on the same time as closed of as always.
The relationship between them is full of great chemistry.

What is the truth

The story is fun. It has action, it has a mysterious alien artifact, a lot of humour. It has everything an amazing Torchwood story needs. Andi and Norton are running through London 1950s and this half of the time naked… just image…
The best thing about the story is that you like Andi try to find out what Norton actually wants. What is the true Norton and what is played. In the end you know as much as Andi does. This story shows as so much more about Norton and still keep him a mystery.
But the biggest mystery in the end is something else and it will bring Norton a lot of sleepless nights.

Listen to it or not

Definitely listen to it. You will have a lot of fun. This definitly my favorite Torchwood story this year. It is not just a great story with great characters but also spiked with a lot of information about Shoho in this time.
I really hope we will get a lot more about these two. I like the idea of box-Sets just about them. Give me more Norton and Andi.
