DW: Ripper’s Curse

Hey Guys,

welcome to the IDW DW Vol 2 ‘Ripper’s Curse’ with the eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory. This story takes place at the 30th September 1888 and 9th November 1888. Like the name says it is about Jack the Ripper. The story goes over three chapters. What I like the most about this story are the drawings. I really like the style.

A typical Ripper case

Jack the ripper is a really interesting murder case. There are so many different takes on what happened and who he murder was. I think almost everyone had seen the movie with Johnny Depp ‘From Hell’ but this is just one of the many movies, series and books that had used the mysteries around Jack the Ripper. Now it is Doctor Who turn and sadly I am disappointed.

I don’t to say much about the story of this comic. Because everyone know the story. The Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive when the third victim was found. The Doctor actually find out really fast what is going on. There is no investigation to find out found is going on. They just throw a few names around. Also the dilemma of letting a person die to protect the bigger picture… to protect the web of time, doesn’t have a big role.

The don’t take time to explore this feeling of guilt or the consequences Amy’s interference had. No they just let it slide with sometime times just heals themself. I had hoped for something like in the episode ‘Rosa’. That you actually see and feel the emotions the regret, the curse of doing nothing. Sadly nothing of it comes here into play. The ripper case is closed.

Sadly for it wasn’t the best take on this story. I have seen a lot better versions. But did I told you how amazing the drawings are? They are really lovely.

DW: Fugitive

Hey Guys,

welcome to the IDW DW Vol 1 chapter ‘Fugitive’ with the tenth Doctor. He travels alone that means it is in his life between ‘Planet of the death‘ and ‘Waters of Mars‘. It is also following directly the end of ‘Silver Scream‘. Ahistory place the story around the year 2545.

Old enemies

The theme of the story is one that we have so often in tenth Doctor era. The power of the Time Lord, the consequences of his intervention. We meet old enemies of the Doctor. Krillitans, Draconions, Sotarans, Ogrons and Judoon. That is not enough the Shadow proclamation is bringing the Doctor before the court for his interventions. He is found guilty but someone is out to kill him before he lands in prison.

New friends

The Doctor finds himself on the run with a few races he never thought of fighting together. We see again that the Doctor has as any other person his prejudices. I love this story because the Doctor has to look at the consequence his intervention had on the people. Races that are warriors wanting peace. He finds unlikely friends. It is fun to watch these four race work together and learning at least the other – you can never be sure that the Doctor learnt his lesson.

Through all the adventures

These story drops names and stories everywhere. I smiled when the tenth Doctor talks about Charley Pollard but that was not the only thing that we have hints of. Do you know the feeling when you watch the first seasons of the New Doctor Who and the hint at every turn on the Classic Series? That is exactly what they do here. You have hints at stories like ‘Battlefield‘, ‘Paper Cuts‘ or the hint of the War Doctor. It is so much fun to search of all the hints of old or new stories of the Doctor.

DW: Body Snatched

Hey Guys,

welcome to the IDW DW Vol. 2 #10-11 ‘Body Snatched with the 11th Doctor, Amy and Rory. It takes place around 4211. It is a really short story. It has 2 chapters a 24 sides. The story remembers me of Walking dead or Residant Evil… stuff that goes in that direction.

The Ponds and the Doctor

I have a lot of problems with this story. But it is not just the story. It is also the problems that I had most times with these three. The Doctor is always ignore Rory or says something to make him feel small. On the other hand he is all over Amy. Amy can do everything. I really hate the Williams/Pond thing. So the relationship between the Doctor and the two of them is like it was in the series.. annoying.
The other thing is Rory. I love Rory and this would have been a really great opportunity for Rory to shine but instead all he does is doing what he always does – love Amy. It is amazing who much he loves her and it is great that they show it here – even when in the end they make fun of him. But he is so much more. He is more than Amy.

Living Broccoli

The next thing is the story itself. The humans grow bodies with enough intelligent to work but not enough to rebel. They just live for 50 years than the brain dies but the body lives on. Of course someone is there to use this for something different. But what I don’t like about the story. That nobody says anything against this. The humans grow themself slaves with a conscious. But it is not even addressed how wrong this is. No instead the Doctor runs around and calls them broccoli and Vegetables. Hey let’s grow some slaves it is okay to do this because we grow them… yeah… definitely don’t like this part of the story.

DW: Agent Provocateur

Hey Guys,

welcome to the IDW DW mini-series #1 ‘Agent Provocateur’ with the tenth Doctor and Martha. While I love Manga I always had my problems with comics. One of the problems is the drawing. I would never say that this comics is bad drawing but it is not my style. I bought a bunch of comics a while ago. For just one story and I don’t even remember which story. Now that we all have a lot of time at hand. I start to read them.
‘Agent Provocateur’ plays in three different times and a lot of different places. We have the 1957, 1974 and 4.999.999.999.

Best milkshake

The Doctor is still trying to give Martha the best milk shake ever when they ran into a Sycorax who hunts for the last of their kinds. So the Doctor as the last of the Time Lords is obviously on the list. This is where the story starts.
Truth be told I couldn’t follow what this story has to do with rest of the story. We find out that on a few planets the whole population except one individual disappeared.

What is going on

My biggest problem with the story was that I didn’t get the jumps. From were the one chapter ended and the next began. Sometime it gets explained later and I think ahh.. that is why it starts there but other times I still don’t get it. Maybe it is just me or I was to sleepy to understand it. The story was not bad it remembered me a little of the end of season 4 with the aliment planets.
The interesting part is actually this group of creatures that are trying to manipulated the events around the Doctor.

The end of this story lets somethings open and I think at we will see a few of the characters again at some time. Maybe I even have some of them. I will see what I find in my bundle of comics.

DW: The Girl who loved Doctor Who

Hey Guys,

I couldn’t resist and bought me bundle of digital comics of Doctor Who on Humble Bundle and one of the comics were ‘The Girl who loved Doctor Who. This comic is with the 11th Doctor. It is a titan comic by Paul Cornell and drawn by Jimmy Broxton. The Story is 40 pages long and is a story stands alone. It takes place somewhere after the goodbye of Amy and he doesn’t have a new companion yet. So it is somewhere before Clara or when he already met her but not traveled with full time.

Thats how the story goes…

The story is quite easy and actually nice. The Doctor has again problems with his TARDIS and lands in a parrallel universe. This parallel universe is our real world, where the Doctor is just a story, a TV-Show. Everyone is thinking of him as Matt Smith. There is a 10 year old girl, which met him and take him home to show him everything. She is angry with him because she knows the Doctor is not real and want that Matt Smith stops playing. This girl is a full time fan. Because she watched and have every episode of Doctor Who even the classics. Of course there is monster and also the little girl gets bullied by a few boys.

Reading or not

You can read it. The story is sweet and nice. But it is nothing more than that. The story is not really deep. I mean the plot is promising and could have been really deep about facing your problems and things like that, but it isn’t. This story could be alot better when they got deeper into it. Also i have a problem with the drawings. Truth be told i like the Manga drawings and Comic drawings are quite different. But here my biggest problem is that this girl doesn’t look like 10 years… she looks so much older at times and i really dislike it. But that is just my taste.

Torchwood: Rift War

So,

i could resist and had to buy the ‘Rift War’ it is a comic from Torchwood. So this comic strip is drawed by different artist. So i will talk about the chapters and than about the whole story.

The first chapter is not my art. I don’t like the way it is drawn, the same is it for chapter two. But the characters are really well written. It starts with creatures that came through the rift and attacking humans. Torchwood is on the way to fighting them. Also it seems like this creatures are in war with Torchwood, just Torchwood don’t know anything about it.

The second chapter is about the vanishing of the Torchwood mainquarters and Tosh with it. Tosh is in the space between and met there a strange guy named Vox, which seems to know a thing about this creatures and the rift.

The third and fourth chapter is looking really amazing. I like the way it looks. The third chapter is really sweet it is about gwen and rhys raising a alien baby. The fourth chapter is about dinosaurs in  our time and Vox says that he can help to heal the rift forever.

The fifth chapter is about gwen and jack in the past. Also it is Vox which brings them there and bring them back. It is a really special guy. But this chapter and the sixth is not my art. I don’t like the way it looks. The sixth chapter is about a time overlap. So we met the old Trochwood.

Chapter seventh and eigth find kinda ugly but also it is a more realistic style what i like more. So yeah… i don’t know it are a special chapters from the artworks. Also we find out a little more about the creatures and about Vox.

Chapter nine and ten  are also not my style. This is the big finale. Yeah i know i didn’t write much about the comic. So lets say, i was dissapointed. Not just about the drawings because i am not a big comic fan (i am more the manga guy). But the story is not so good. The episode are to short to be reall emotional or thrilling. The turning point is not really surprising. I think must people did see this caming. It is nice and so but not more. If i had read it before i bought it, would had bought it.

There is also a bonus story in there. She is really short and i like the drawings. But it is also not a deep story, just scratching the surface, if you could call that scratching…

I love Torchwood and i love things where everyone is still alive. But i can’t recommend the comic. For me it was to disapointing.
