DW: Little Drummer Boy

Hey Guys,

here comes another Christmas story form the ‘Short Trip‘-Range ‘Little Drummer Boy’ from the second season. The first Doctor travels with Steven and Sara. Sadly I don’t know any other adventures with Sara Kingdom. I know that she exist and traveled with the Doctor but all the TV episode with her are not available on DVD… so this is actually the first time I hear a story with her.

Random landings

This story is mostly from Saras point of view. We got a lot of her thoughts and that would be more interessting if actually would know her story, but it also gives us in a few sentence a good summeray. That makes it a lot easier to get a grip of her character.
So in this story the Doctor tries to make random landings so the Daleks would lose their corse. But somewho they always end up at earth at christmas through the years.
So is a little boy named Robert. Of course our three heros try to find out what is behind all that. I really like the twist in this story that I didn’t see coming. It is all day excidents…

It is an interessting story. For me it is a little to happy end and in the same time not… So I don’t know where to put this story. But it is a good story and it is the first Doctor so go and listen to it.

DW: O Tannenbaum

Hey Guys,

merry christmas to all of you and to celebrate I got the Doctor Who Story ‘O Tannenbaum’ from the seventh season of ‘Short Trips‘. The story is about the first Doctor and Steven, who also reads the story. I love the ‘Short Trips‘ but I always find it hard to write something about it without telling you everything that happened. But like always I will try my best.

Christmas Trees

So what is the story about. The Doctor and Steven land before a old farmhouse near a forest of ‘christmas trees’. In this couttch they met a little girl named Greta, who is waiting for his father to come home.
It is not a horror story about it goes for a little creepy athmosphere. Music from a gramophone and the backround sounds a little creepy…that something is going to happen. I really like the atmosphere that they are creating. It didn’t feel like a christmas story but it kind is. A thing I love about the first Doctor is that he changed so much over all the season so much. To listen to the Doctor giving his speech is great and I have to thing of where we started with this Doctor.

It is a great story, with great atmosphere and I love the ending.

DW: The Tenth Planet – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 2nd adventure of the 4th season of Doctor Who ‘The Tenth Planet’. The first Doctor is traveling with Polly and Ben. The 3rd season had a lot differnet Companions but in 4th season we got the biggest change. What actually for as makes Doctor Who what it is today. Willam Hartnells Doctor died and regenarted. ‘The Tenth Planet’ is the last adventure with the first Doctor. Polly and Ben will stay almost the whole season.
The story takes place in 1986 in Antartica and introduced another long lived enemy of the Doctor the Cybermen.

Mondas

The history of Mondas. Earth twin brother that drifted away. The story of the cybermen is not really different to the story of Daleks. There are a few mayor difference. The cybermen bringen Mondas back in our solar system to get the energie from earth. Pure survivle with no understanding for life or compassion. Polly tries to talk sense into the cybermen. That is something not many companions would do.

Polly and Ben saving the day

Sadly the Doctor don’t have much screen time. William Hartnell was ad bad health and has absend from most of the adventure. But so everything is up to Polly and Ben. There is no Doctor telling them what to do. They have to make the decissions on their own. They handle themself has good as the Doctor by messing everything up and get captured before they get out of there alive.

Reanimation

The last episode is sadly lost. But the reanimation of the episode is one of the better ones. It is detailed and you can see the typical emotions of our heros on their faces. Also it kinda suits the emotionless cybermen. I am more than happy that they did reanimated this. I love the story and it is such a important story for the Doctor Who we know and love.

DW: The War Machines – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome the last adventure of the 3rd Season of Doctor Who ‘The War Machines’. Steven already left the TARDIS so the Doctor is traveling with Dodo. Dodo seems even through all she been through was capable of saving her joyful self. But the Doctor is not traveling long like this. We get introduced to Polly and Ben. I really love these two.
It takes place in July 1966 in London.

WOTAN

WOTAN is a computer who know everything even what TARDIS means and can think on his own. Something we got a lot of movies and series about. The machine deciding to take over the world from the humans. WOTAN get his helpers by hypnosis and let the human work for their own destruction. Also the computer seems to know about the Intelligence of the Doctor.

Ben and Polly

I really loved them from the first moment. She has kind soul. She cares about people and feels responsible from them. But she is also a very happy person. Polly likes fun and humor. Friendship means a lot to her. Even when she does know Ben for like two days, she cares and would not betray him. Ben is a little more… sullen? He is responsible and realize very fast when a situation turns dangerous. But he also tries to help and don’t let anyone behind.

A good end

This adventure changes a lot. We not just get new companions. The Doctor is taking sides and got involved on his own will. When we started Doctor Who the Doctor didn’t get involved. He just get himself into problems and tries to get out alive. Th Doctor don’t save people, he didn’t care about them. His travels with Barbara and Ian changed him.
Now we have a Doctor that actually try to save people and get’s involved in things. So this is a great way to end the 3rd Season because the 4th season with the 2nd Doctor. He will always get involved.

DW: The Gunfighters – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome the 8th adventure of the 3rd season of Doctor Who ‘The Gunfighters’. He travels with Steven and Dodo. The story takes place in the year 1888 in the small town Tombstone. “The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon” was specially written for this adventure. This is one of the history episode that actually is not historical accurate.

Wild West

It is a story about the Wild West. Actually I never really understood the fascination everyone had the wild west. The story doesn’t change it. It has bars and guns… and I don’t know what is so interesting in any of that. So I don’t have much knowledge about this time. I heart of Doc Holiday but I don’t know anything about him Johnny Ringo. Most of the time I want to inform myself about the stuff the Doctor shows us but not with this…I just don’t care much about this episode.

The Doctor and the Doc

A few people want to kill Doc Holiday. He uses the Doctor to make people believe the Doctor is Doc Holiday. The three of them just try to get out of this alive. When everyone wants to see them death. Dodo get captured by Doc Holiday and she has really trouble to deal with all the death around her. With only the view adventures seeing with her I think she hasn’t made for traveling in the TARDIS. But that makes her really interesting.

So much shooting

The story is for me to much shooting and killing people. This definitely is not my favorite story. But seeing Steve and Dodo together I really wished she had more episode with them. They could be really cool and interesting. Sadly the episode is not. It also means that there is are just adventure with the Doctor left. Steven how ever will not be in The War Maschines. He has is departure in ‘The Savages’.

DW: The Ark – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome the 6th story of the 3rd Season of Doctor Who ‘The Ark’ with the first Doctor, Steven and Dodo. I haven’t seen or heart any of the primary stories. But they say that Dodo only appeared at end of the last episode of ‘The Massacre’. So this is the first adventure with Dodo and there is just two other story complete with her (The Gunfighters) & The War Machines. Vicki left the TARDIS in the 3rd story of the season ‘The Myth Makers’.

In the story the say that they are in 57th segment of time. This should mean that the first two episodes of the story is around 10000000. The last to play 700 years later.

Destruction of earth

Isn’t it sometimes scary that even after 56 years some of the stories are as current has they were than. This story is the first that mentioned the destruction on earth and how the humans will survive this destruction. The human race just never change. But now that I rewatch it, I think that with more episodes I would really start to love Steven. I like the way he thinks and see the world.

The new dynamic

Dodo is not just new to the time travel but she is also a little naive but also really joyful. So Steven is in this story a little like her father or big brother. He is run after and try to stop her when she does something without thinking. It would have been quiet interesting to see how this turns out. Sadly we don’t get that time.
I hadn’t so good memories of ‘The Ark’ but I really liked it when I rewatched it. Also got a better connection with Steven and Dodo than the first time. I really wish we had more of the stories out on DVD.

DW: The Time Meddler – Rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome to the last episode of the 2nd season of Doctor Who ‘The Time Meddler’. It is the first adventure without Barbara and Ian, but we also get a new companion Steven. Steven is not one of favorites but it is possible that this is because I don’t have many adventure with him. The episode takes place in 1066.
The is the last season with the first Doctor that is almost complete. In this season only the adventure ‘The Crusade’ is missing. On season one it is just ‘Marco Polo’.
From the third season I only have 3 adventure. So after this adventure we have just 4 more adventures on DVD.

The Vikings are coming

Mostly the story is about the Doctor trying to find out who the Monk is and what he is up to. He has a lot of stuff that doesn’t belong in this time. So how does he has it and where does he come from. Also in a few days or few weeks the vikings arrive with their fleet. It is a typical adventure. Vicki and Steven are searching for the Doctor and the Doctor got captured, flies and got captured again.

Time travel

Vicki also tries to explain to Steven what the TARDIS is. Steven has a few difficulties with believing in time travel. Also the dynamic of the group is different now. Vicki has more experience with time travel but Steven is still more experience in life. Since Vicki and Steven are together the Doctor is alone. Sometimes it looks a little special when the Doctor matters dates and information about the time.

The first other Time Lord

This story brings us the first other time lord we will meet. The Monk is one of my favorite enemies of the Doctor. Sadly he never had such a big part as the Master and the only other appearance in the TV-serie is in one of the lost episodes ‘The Daleks Master Plan’. Thank good the novels and Audio Dramas didn’t forget about him. He is quiet fun.

DW: The Chase – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome to ‘The Chase’ the last adventure of Doctor Who season two with Ian and Barbara. Plays at a lot of place and times. In 2170 the Daleks create the first time maschine and used it follow the Doctor through time and space. The alien Mila we meet in ‘Patient Zero‘ claims that she got on board the TARDIS in this adventure.

Everyday life

What I love about the early Doctor Who is that you see so much of the life in the TARDIS. We see Ian read books, Barbara making dresses, Vicki being bored. It so much have just to see them have a normal life. When the found a planet with a lot of sand and two suns. Barbara and the Doctor just decided to lay in the sun when Vicki and Ian are of exploring. This is what I love so much. Yes there are adventures but there is also just the normal life going on.

Doctor against the Daleks

The story is practical is about the Doctor and his companions running from the Daleks and the Daleks chasing after them. The land in times like 1872 on the Mary Celeste, 1966 on the Empire State Building and 1996 festival of Ghana.
Festival of Ghana is actually the fun part. It was a theme park and one attraction was the Haunted House. But they don’t know that they are at the theme park. They all got really frightened.

Show Down

The showdown is in the year 3565 on the planet Mechanus. The Doctor and his companions are choosing this as a place to finally fight against the Daleks. It also featured Steven as a new companion.
Sadly this means that we have to say goodbye to Ian and Barbara. I loved them so much and the story is good and fun. A good goodbye to my little family.

DW: The Space Museum – rewatch

Welcome Guys,

to ‘The Space Museum’ is the first adventure of Doctor Who, which features an alternative timeline. The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vickie find themself at the planet Xeros. Ahistory places it around 2965 but there is no year given or much hints for what year it could be. They assume because of the ‘banded’ Dalek and not the ‘slatted’ one that it has after the fall of the Morok Empire (mentioned in ‘The Death of Art’).

The familiar bantering

What I love about the TV series is that we had 5 adventures with this group of people but when you watch it you have the feeling as if they travel for ever with each other. They grow very close and I love who good they know each other. It is always fun to watch them interact with each other.
I love these three companions so much. Vicki has a lot of screen time to show off her talent. This episode shows us again that the Doctor is not the one that does the saving. The companions save him so often and I love it.

Got to see us

Finally the four of them visit a museum – the Space Museum. From the start everything is a little wrong. Like the don’t leave footprints or can touch anything. They also find themself into glass cases. They have to change their future and get in between to sides fighting. Problems after problems for the four of them

The problem with the future

We have here the problem I like the most about knowing the future. The question the four of them ask them a lot. Were we suppose to do this. Is this action what brings us to the future we want to prevent? Or are we actually changing something? I like this idea a lot.

DW: The Web Planet – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome to the story The Web Planet. It is a story over six episodes. The Doctor, Vicki, Ian and Barbara are landing on the planet Vortis with aliens in forms of giant insects. Ahistory and other novelisation place the story around 20.000.

Always the same

Like all the other Doctors the first doesn’t know what is going on in the TARDIS. This story is a story like this. The TARDIS doesn’t do what he wants. She stays at this planet and Ian and the Doctor go out to find the reason. What I like about this is Barbara. She is a very intelligent woman and she knows that there is a logic answer to what is happening to her and her bracelet – for me it looks like magnetic – but she doesn’t know the answer yet and it frightens her and she is not afraid to admit that.

Missing

The Web Planet is one of the stories that never really got me or I didn’t got the story. When you listen to Big Finish not just the stories but the interview you get a lot of opinions about different Doctor Who Stories. I actually don’t remember who said it but same one was talking about how great The Web Planet was and what this loved about it. So when I rewatched it wanted to see what this person saw. Sadly for me I didn’t. It wasn’t the costumes or that the stories wasn’t good. Somehow it is really hard for me to watch it. I don’t why or what it is that makes this story so uninteresting for me.
I am not a big fan of the costumes and you actually have to see it in the time it was made. Even I couldn’t remember who was who of this Menoptera. Everyone of them was slightly different. The story about an Invasion race and the fight against is great.

So the story has great things but still something seems to be missing for me. I still think that everyone should watch it. Even when the only reason is that there are just three stories left with Ian and Barbara and one of them The Crusade is partly missing.
