DW: Singularity

Hey Guys,
welcome to the 76 adventure – Singularity – of the big finish main range. It plays it the 21th centuary somewhere after Warchild and before the Seeds of Death. In the timeline of the fifths Doctor and Turlough it is somewhere after the Resurrection of the Daleks. I love this story from the beginning.

Turlough

He is one of the most interessting characters on Doctor Who. Is at the beginning unsympatic, always thinks first of himself, he does what is best for him, he isn’t into the magic around the Doctor, he is kinda bored the travling, the adventures. He changes the most of all Companions i remember. He got alot scene to show this to us. He is the one that talks Lena out of changing history. He is conaticing to these people. I love him. He is also one of the Companions that likes the TARDIS. He never saw her as a thing, he always saw her as a living creature. This is again in this Story showing.

Lena

Lena is the reason why i love the stories with the fifths Doctor so much. She is losing everything. Friends of her die because, they got involved with the Doctor. Because travling with him she got make choices nobody have. She is always struggling from the first moment she met the Doctor. She is one of the companion that is at a point where she wish she never met the Doctor. She is a person we need more on Doctor Who. Because she is right. Most times he makes a great mess without really helping. He wants to help but he not always really does. This is something we need to remember.

Story

The Story is really good. We have amazing characters that works very well in the storytelling. The bad guys are not really what they seems like. It is a little surprising and it is bringing the question up of punishing for a crime before comitted. For me this is a pretty good story.

DW: The Axis of Insanity

Hey Guys,

so ‘The Axis of Insanity’ is the 56 adventure from the main range. The Story takes place somewhere after the ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’. The fourth Doctor is traveling with Peri and Erimem. I excatly not pretty sure when this story or all the Erimem stories are set in the timeline after the Doctor. It seems like it has to be after the goodbye of Thourlough. If someone knows better tell me.

Erimem

So what do we need to know about this companion? She appear the first time in the story ‘The Eye of the Scorpion’, which is the 24 adventure of ‘Big Finish Main Range‘. She is an uncrowned Pharao from the ancient egypt. When she started traveling with the Doctor at the age of 17. She as a great wisdom and wants to learn more. The Doctor offered her the chance of doing that. Along the travels with the Doctor she and Peri built a strong bond like sisters.

Mistakes of the Time Lords

This story is one of the most interessting. I love all the theme about Time Lord and their mistakes. This Story tells us what happend to the part of history the Time Lord changes. The mighting Time Lords are making mistakes that left their traces. We learn about the way Time Lords deal with their mistakes. They hide them and lock them away. It shows us a side of the Time Lords that they try to hide.
Also we see the graveyard of the TARDIS’s. The way they create the atmosphere is really amazing. I could see it before my eyes the way Erimem sees it. Beautifull and so sad.

Insanity

What is insanity or what sanity? The story apart from the really good theme about the Time Lords is really insane. Many parts of it seem unreal and crazy and other way to much real. It is life and it is fantasy. It is a special mix that defines the whole story. First it seems like only the Doctor get screen time but than Peri is out of the TARDIS searching for her. And the two first episode you think that Erimem is just there. But than she can shine too. Erimem had too little time but that time she has were really strong and good stuff.

In the end i really like the crazyness and the reality of the story. I like the way Time Lords play there part without being really a part of the story.

DW: Destiny of the Doctor – Babblesphere

Hey Guys,
so here we have the fourth adventure of the ‘Destiny of the Doctor‘-serie with the fourth doctor and Romana II read by Lalla Ward and Roger Parrott. It plays on the planet Hephastos. Also with all the hints from the story it seems that the story plays after the episode ‘The Leisure Hive’ before Adric is joining the group.

Story about our own world

This Story is about something that is called the Babblesphere that also could be called internet. Of course here in Doctor Who, the babblesphere is a room, where your conscious mind is and you can’t just go out anymore. No thought is private. For me it is like the internet just a little bigger and so on. They tell the story how everyone lost themself on this babblesphere. They just stopped wanting doing something else. The stop going to work and just shatter in the babblesphere.
There is going something more on, because at the start of the story someone get killed by the programm. Also it plays with the theme of computers take the power. The people built this programm to overview the babblesphere but this programm begann to think that he don’t know this people anymore.

Play a game

Romana is lovely and i think the characters are really well written. Romana have a lot of action the first part is mostly about her and this is a really good thing. Also it is fun to here they play that game. They play the game lists of 5 things to overwheel the programm. They are a few fun things in it. Romana list the former presidents of gallifrey or the 11th doctor give a list of his favorite foes and so on. It is fun.

Fazit

It is a nice story and it has some really atcual theme but i find at really hard to listen to it. I don’t know what it is but i always almost start sleeping when i am listing to it or i just began to blend the voices out. I need to hear it three times before i had the whole story. So for me it is one of the weekest part of the serie.

DW: Festival of Death

So guys,
after yesterday a really beautiful day. It was 36° and i was swimming in the pool and lying in the sun with friends and ice cream. I have found at the nigth time to read the end of ‘Festival of Death’. So, hear my opinion of the book:

It is the fourth book of the 50th Anniversary Collection (Past Doctor Adventures) and is featuring the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker).

The first thing i have to say is that the fourth doctor was totally not my doctor. I was really really happy when i could start with the fifth Doctor. I love his companions but he never really got into my heart. So here he is travling with Romana. I am not totally sure what version of Romana plays in this book, but i think it his Romana II (Lalla Ward). She is totally more my thing than Romana I. Lalla plays her a lot more relaxed. We meet also K9 and really is there someone who don’t like K9?!

But lets talk about the book. The start don’t get me. There is the Prolog, with the what is going on effect. Than we have the Doctor and Romana, than we have the Nyanna part and so one. For my the start is to erratic and you don’t know what happen, why it happen and who the people are, the good thing about the book is the Doctor and Romana are as clueless as you.

Then you have this ‘Beautiful Death’ Event. It is interessting theme. But i don’t get the people are doing it. They die and than came back. So they can see heaven. I am sure that i will go past this attraction.

You have no clue what is going on in the book and than it goes really timeywhimey. So don’t get what is happen. They exist in two time streams and also are going again and than going again back in time. As i know now the doctor goes at least four times back in time to do things and to save the people he knows that they have to survive. I didn’t really make sence to me but i hope to the end every thing is logic. But i don’t believe it yet, because everytime you think are coming to an end and the Doctor is not going back in time again, he hears that he is.

The book just had theme that i find really unlogic with time travel. There is no starting point and that is kinda … unsatisfying… but Romana as also problems with this idea and that is a reason i can live with it. I like the questions that are asked her. They know who dies and can they do something to save them? Have they the right to save them? But are they kinda at fault with they don’t try it? But it is sad they don’t have much time with this questiones. They are mentioned and they say such things about life and the posiblity to change your mistakes.

At the end I would say it is not a bad book but they better ones.  If you like this timmey-whimmey stuff and circles of no real beginning and so on, it is a really good book. But i don’t like this style of stories. For me such things don’t make sense in the end.

But yeah for everyone else a real good book 😉

Have a nice day everyone 🙂
