DW: The Daleks – rewatch

Hey Guys,

here we go with the next adventure of my rewatch of Classic Doctor Who – The Daleks. Like the title says the story is about the Daleks. It is so much fun to see the history of the Daleks and the Doctor. This are still the Daleks i learnt to love.
To set the story in a time line seems complicated. There is no date given in the story itself and everyone is setting the story in a different time. My source is setting it around 2250 but it is just a wild guess with all the clues from the other stories.

Everyone for himself

Nobody on the TARDIS is a team right now. Not totally true. Ian and Barbara are a team. They are still focused on getting back home. They are good people and wanting to help but they also forget sometimes everything when the other is danger or wants something or focus to much on getting home. They don’t start to see beauty in this adventures.
The Doctor is just wanting to see everything. He doesn’t care for the safity of them. He wants to see things. He lies to them to get his way.

More about the life in the TARDIS

I love that we see more of the life inside the TARDIS. In this story the Doctor shows us for example how they get something to eat. This is something i miss in the new seasons. Here we see parts of their normal lifes between all the adventures.

The Daleks

This is the first time my favorite Monsters apears. I really love it. They are already the enemy but we got the story how they develope. This wasn’t an evil masterplan or anything. It was just the logic developement to survive.
But what i love the most of it is that there is no evil and dramatic over saving the world. Yes the Daleks want to exterminate the Thals. But the Doctor is not needed there and he doesn’t try to save anyone than himself and Susan. Also he had no problem with the destruction of the Daleks. He is responsible for the death of all Daleks in the city.

DW: An unearthly child – rewatch

Hey Guys,

I started my rewatch of Doctor Who and of course i start at the beginning with ‘An earthly child’. Just the first minutes were enough to remember why i don’t like Susan and love Ian and Barbara. Truth be told the first episode was kinda boring. Of course it is iconic and i love it but the first thing that i had problems with was the tempo of the stories. This is the reason why i say the first episode of boring. When we watch new series there happens so much in the first episode. Here just happend nothing. It is not a bad thing. I needed a few stories but i begann to love it. The story has enough time to evelope and the characters has so much time to shine.

The characters

They are so many things why i fall in love with the classic stories and almost everthing is already in the first epiosde. First of all the characters. I love a full TARDIS. So many people. I am not a big fan of Susan. She is the granddaugther of the Doctor and is almost everytime screaming…
Ian and Barbara are teachers. I love them so much. They stand on their own feets and have their own opinions. They stand up to the Doctor and don’t take any of his shit.
The second think is the Doctor. He is not nice or a hero. When the serie started he is the opposite. He is grumpy and just want help himself. Everything the new Doctor is started here with Ian and Barbara that teached him this.

They said that the Doctor always has the same character traits but that is not complitely true. He become that man because he captured and took Ian and Barbara away with him. He wanted to protect himself and got family. But it is a really hard and long way. Especially Ian and the Doctor are always fighting with each other. But they change each other. But this is a little forward for this story. With the knowledge what is to come and everything else you can see all that stuff already in this first adventure.

Watching or not

The story is not the best. It started with a story of cavemen that search for a way to make fire. It gets harder to find something to eat and who can make fire is the leader. The tribe our friends met or get captured by has took in a outsider who wants to become the leader too. So the son of the old leader are fighting for this place. The story is developing slow and most of the time our friends get theirself captured again and again. The story has a few strong points when you get to see more inside of our characters but apart form this the story doesn’t have much to offer. Just look it and enjoy that the Doctor is so totally differnt form the NewWho.

That is also the reason i will every Fan of NewWho tell that they should go and watch the classics. Because this is the journay that made the Doctor the person he is now. It was a developement. Everything that happend to the Doctor is changing him. Every companion has their influence on him. But Barbara and Ian are the most important. They teach him to care about other, they teach him to help. This developement is so amazing to see. So go and watch the classic who stories.

DW: S09x11

Hey Guys,
welcome to the new Doctor Who episode and the negative rant about it. It was not everything bad but as whole the episode doesn’t get me. There are so many things i really disliked. So you all know this is just me ranting over one of my favorite series that i don’t want to watch anymore but can’t stop.

One-man-show

Peter Capaldi is A+ actor and can totally rock a one-man-show but i am not a fan of it. It’s like a X files with just Mulder or just Scully… not the same and boring. The Doctor needs someone but i can overlook that he hasn’t one in this because the companion in this episode was still Clara. The way they let her play in this episode made me afraid that they would bring her back, but until now she is still dead. So this all alone thing is not my thing. But on the other hand my fears put aside, i like the way they made the Doctor talk with Clara, when she isn’t their anymore. With Adric death the Doctor was defeated. But here the Doctor is angry. Also the words of Clara are a highlight in the episode.

Boring…

Nothing happend… this is what happend in this episode. The Doctor is talking and wandering around… nothing more. He doesn’t know what all this is about and we don’t know. This whole construct doesn’t make any sense. They say that all rooms get set to zero or the starting point when he leaves… what can’t be. Because when it is that way how can he write brids in the sand, how can he find his clothes? Everything should have been away too. But it isn’t. The Doctor dies over and over again… just starting new everytime he dies…
But of course the crystal wall he is breaking is also not reseting…something here doesn’t make any sense.

Confessions

The Doctor has to confess thing to stop the monster from killing him. So he is talking about the time war, about being afraid, about a hybrid. Two things about the confessions. The idea is not so bad, but the confessions are. The Doctor tells us about a hybrid of a Dalek and… I hated the Dalekhybrid episode. This was a human-dalek Hybrid and that episode was so bad… and they weren’t really dangerous.
In the end he tells us or them that their of course is no dalekhybrid. What the heck? They got the prophecy wrong. They should be afraid of a Dalekhybrid. The hybrid that will stand in burn down grounds is me/ the Doctor. The way he says it i thing he really means himself. But i actually doesn’t like the human-timelord-hybrid eiter and ignored it. The Doctor is no on the way to destroy? He still has friends in Gallifrey. Some people thing he means ME, but we will see.
I don’t remember the scene. But i read a few posts about it that the Doctor left Gallifrey because he was afraid… i choose to forget that. Because he was not afraid. William Hartnells Doctor was a hard and closed old man. He was bored out of his mind. He could just see the world, he needed to experience it. He doesn’t thought of the races as bad or good. He just was interessted in them. All that… came when he started traveling with his first two companions. He was not afraid… and also William Hartnells Doctor dead because of old age. So stop with that crap.

DW: Companion Chronicles – Star Born

Hey Guys,

here we go with the new adventure of Vicki and the first Doctor in ‘the Companion Chronicles’-serie. It is the 9th adventure of the 8th season and play in London early 20th centuary. In the timeline of the Doctor it most be shortly after Rome, that would be ‘the romans’. That means Ian and Barbara are on board of the TARDIS. This is one of my favorite travel group.

A story about Vicki

It is like that. Of course it is really good that Vicki has such a big role because it is her story, but Ian, Barbara and the Doctor completely changeable. The role are so little that it also could be Dodo and Steven… or someone else. But Vicki is really well written and can totally shoulder the story on her own. The Story is a nice idea. Vicki get warned that when she will step in the TARDIS again she will die. The person that whats to save her is nobody else than herself. Vicki is an interessting character and make that story work really nicely.

Time

The only point i have is the time thing. How much time did they spend on that planet to develope that friendship? For me this friendship thing is to fast and not really believeable for me. Also Vicki seems to know the Doctor very well, what is a little special because she doesn’t know him very long. ‘The Romans’ is the second adventure together and Vicki hasn’t seen many side of the Doctor at that time, but she knows him in that story good enough to know he will do anything to save them. This is what takes a little away from the story. But this can only be me.

Fazit

The first story read by Maureen O’Brien (DW: Frostfire)was for deficult to listen to. This story his more pleasant to listen too. It is a really good story and Maureen did a really good job reading the story. It is sad that the role of the other are so little but it don’t take anything form the story. Vicki is shining in this episode and i can recommand it. It is a really good story.

DW: Destiny of the Doctor – Hunters of earth

Of course i couldn’t let out a 50th years anniversary special and of course i have the TARDIS version of this special in my room.

The first volume is about the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and his granddaughter Susan. I am not a fan of Susan. But the story is not bad.

The TARDIS is damaged and the Doctor is trying to repair it and in this time Susan is going to school of course on the famous school ‘Coal Hill School’. It is like what happen before they met Barbara and Ian. Susan is make a friend Cedric. Of course that is not the story. It beginns with that girl what goes kinda crazy and going to attack Susan and telling her that: she is different and that nobody wants her here, she should just vanished.

Also there is in the radio a song that is from the Doctor for Susan Foreman and Cedric with a very special message about Woodstuck and the Beatles. Also ‘it is all in the wind, Cedric’. What do we made out of it?

The Doctor tries to become a few parts for the TARDIS and there is a guy, who seems to know more about him. He thinks that the Doctor operation basis is in totterslane. Also a few teenagers are attacking the Doctor and tell him ‘that he should go to his own species’. So it seems that many people know about them. So it is not what it seems first. It is about the people who are afraid of the unkown and the desire to use the knowledge of this unkown persons. It is about the Doctor and his opinion about the humans, what has nothing to do with the opinion he had in the new serie. It is about fighting wars.

It is on of the better Stories from this series. Oh yeah, Carol Ann Ford is reading the Story.

DW: Frostfire

Here we are,

i have listened to a new story of ‘the Companion Chronicles‘. It featured Vicki and is also read by her actor Maureen O’Brien. Her voice is a little different, i needed a moment to really identify it with her.

She don’t have a audio book voice. I know i heard the brig and i couldn’t stop listing. But by her it is different. It is not so easy like others. But she is making a good job.

She is visiting someone and is reading him what she had written about her adventures with the Doctor. So it is sad that this story take place after Ian and Barbara left. I am not a big fan of Steven. I liked the family Ian, Barbara, the Doctor and Vicki so much. The landed on the earth and met Jane Austin.

It goes about an egg, a phoenix egg. Vicki is afraid of this egg, because she thinks it will come for her, but the egg get stolen. Also everyone is mention that it is cold. Also the person Vicki read her story to, is also telling that she is getting cold and so. He is also laughing on really special parts of the Story.

We see that all what happend to her still makes her feel bad. Also we get that the person that he read to have something to do with the Story. I really like the structure of the Story and the idea. But the Story on it own, just don’t enthral me.

The very interessting think is what we get to know about her life. The life she choose, but if she know what it would be like, she wouldn’t have choosed it. It is just not my story.

DW: Rise and Fall

Hi Guys,

This is a story from the ‘short trips’. I really like the story. It featured the first Doctor and Ian Chesterton. Nothing happend in this story. Ian and the Doctor just stood there and watch. It is amazing and it is a really good described. The others, the aliens are living in a faster time line so you will get the whole story of there evelopement. The whole hystory of mankind. The Rise and Fall of a civilation.

I don’t know what i can say about it, because it only goes ca 30 min and it don’t happend much. But William Russel is doing a really good job reading the Story. I like how he read the Doctor. He has a good feeling for him. I really see the Doctor before me, when he is reading. So i can total tell you that this is worth your time.

DW: Ten Little Aliens

Ten little Aliens is a doctor who book from the ‘Past Doctor Adventure‘-Serie. It got reprint for the 50th Anniversary Collection.

The book featured the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and his companions Polly and Ben. Many of the adventures of this three are partially or complete missing. So it is a good thing to have some action with these characters.

I am sorry i think for a real critic i need to read it again. But what i can tell us is:

At first i needed a little time to get the story of the other ‘characters’ of the Story. But there are a few really interessting people and they have a real role. The interaction with Polly and Ben or the Doctor are really good and entertaining. Also the book is kinda sad, it has some heavy staff in it ( as far as i remember). It was a really interessting book. It was good to read with well written characters.

Just one thing i didn’t like it was how Ben interacted with Polly in a few scenes. I don’t know if this is his charcter and i just don’t like that part of him or it was the writer.
