DW: Valhalla

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 96th adventure of the big finish main range – Valhalla with the seventh Doctor. This is one of the adventures were the Doctor is without one of the companions and plays around the year 2345.

Retiered

The Doctor retiered and is visiting Valhalla, where everything is for sale, and their job center. Also it seems like there power problems. A few people work in the underground at the power problems but they are not alone. The Doctor is telling himself that all that is not his problem and that he should just walk away. But we all know the Doctor can never retier. He can never just walk away.
For what i understand is Valhalla under controll of an artificial intelligence that doesn’t work after the ideas of the mayor anymore. She is cuting the power of the mayor and take over.

The Doctor all alone

Of course the Doctor is never really alone. He met the people in the underground a woman and a man and they trying to survive together. They have a good chemistry. But they are both characters that are more in the background. They want to go out alive and they ask much question. It is a shame. The seventh Doctor function for me just why better with a dominant character like Ace.

Listen or not

It is quite a good story. If you love the seventh Doctor go and listen to it. For it is more like i don’t have the feeling that i would missed something when didn’t had to listen to it. I think it is one of the adventure that will just stand in my cupboard and don’t get out again. But i can’t critizice anything, because it is a really solid story.

Gallifrey: Weapon of choice

Hey guys,

like you know (or not) i supscribed Doctor Who stories and you can pick a gift if you do it. The gift i decided on was the first adventure of ‘Gallifrey’. I thought it would be the perfect oppurtunity to listen in the story and decide if i want to listen them. It was an really bad idea. Because now i want all other stories of Gallifrey.

What is going on

I loved Romana and i even loved Lalla Wards Romana even more. When she left the TARDIS i was really sad. But her story isn’t over. She have a lot of adventures on their own. Gallifrey is the story were she is the Lord President of Gallifrey. What i think is a very fitting place for her. But they not just bring Romana back. We also met again with K9 and Leela. Leela stayed behind in Gallifrey because she fall in love. Her Husband Andred died and she wants to know what happend. Romana is asking her for help when terrorist came in the possesion of a deadly weapon the Time Lords forget about.
I don’t want to say to much. But it is way more behind everything than you think.

Listen or not

The story is good. It is not that it is amazing. But the story works and it is really nice to have the old characters back in action. Romana as president is really amazing. I love everything about. Also i love how much Leela thinks of Romana and trust her. Torvald is one of the Time Lords that is working with Leela in this adventure. I really like him. He is an interessting character. Also the story has very politcal background. Not everyone is happy with Romana as president. Also behind the good story is alot more and that are the reason why i will listen to the rest of the story.

DW: Exotron

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 95 big finish main range adventure Exotron that featured the fifths Dotor and Peri. It takes place on distant outpost of earth, AHistory is setting it around 2350 somewhere before the Macra Terror. For the Doctors timeline it is somewhere before they met Erimem or after. Anyway Erimem is not part of the Story and they don’t explain were she is.

They protect us

This is beautifull story about missunderstanding about language in many ways. On that outpost of earth are of course humans, but there are als the Farakosh that don’t comunicate like humans. The humans just see them as danger and animals. Than there are the Exotrons. The are devoleped to protect the humans from the Farakosh. But is this really that simple? It never is. They are in a way three species that don’t understand each other. The just reacted to things without thinking what it would look like to the other.
This whole things to we got in a smaller version. Because it goes about a two people that loved each other on some point of their life. She got an affair and the got devorced. All this because of the undoubtly point that comunication is really complicated.

Atmosphere

The Story is really good. I like the themes and it works pretty well. The way the story is told serves to see the simualars between the little situation and the bigger situation. I love how the make this story about love without telling a love story. But something is missing. I don’t get in the story and i don’t know why. Because i like everything about the story. But it is like there is just no spark. I can’t tell you why this is.

B-Side: Urban Myths

The Story is a really nice idea, but i really dislike almost everything about it. Three time lords eats lunch and discuss about the event that lead to the discusion to kill the Doctor. Everytime the tell a little different story. The first time has a WTF-Moment when the tell a story were the Doctor isn’t acting like we know him. You asking yourself what is happend there… it doesn’t make seens like that. But we just get the same story just a little more like the Doctor and again… I don’t know, you wait for something big and different than in the end you just get a story were the Doctor is like always. I am not a fan of stories like that. I hated the endless loop episode of Supernatural…

DW: Lethbridge-Stewart – the forgotten son

Hey Guys,

here it comes the first book of the new serie Lethbridge-Stewart or the Havoc Files. Like the name says it is about Lethbridge-Stewart so what can go wrong?

What is it about

For everyone who didn’t heart about it yet. The serie plays after the events of ‘The Web of fear’. This is his way to becoming the Brigadier and building UNIT. Which is a lovely idea. The Brigadier is an amazing character and one of the most important character in the arc of the third Doctor. So war he is also with Sarah Jane Smith the one that has seen the most reincarnations of the Doctor. I don’t know rigth now if the sixth Doctor met the Brig but one to five and the seventh of met the Brig – and that is just the tv serie. To make a serie about the person who not just become a close friend to the Doctor but also his boss, is an amazing idea – yes i know i said that before and it will be not the last time. Because the Brig is one of my all time favorites.
So the first book took place right after ‘The Web of fear’. When the Doctor left the town was still a mass. They people left behind had to clean up after the incident. The Brig is the one that is responisble for the repopulation of London.

Old enemies

The first case has to do with the Great Intellegent and the past of the Brig (in this story he is just an colonell but he just call him always Brig or the Brigadier). Best thing about the book is not the story itself, which is be no means bad, but the best thing is that we got to know more about the Brig, about his past, his daily life and his fiancee.
The most negative about the book is the way it is written. This story as way to many perspectives. We have the Brig, a dead soldier, the Brigs mom, an old friend of the Brigadier and twins and you look through everyones eyes. Which is making us understand the person itself better but it is just to much for me.

But you got a good feeling for all the characters. You like or dislike them. But there isn’t a character that seems flat. And a few of the characters will cross the Brigs way many times.

Close to the serie?

What is good and on the same time not, is that they actually are very close to the New Who serie. So it is mentioned that the Great Intelligence is followed everywhere by procelin girl – Clara Oswald. But that also means that they took also his last salute to the doctor. Which I really hate because I want to forget that it ever happens. This is destroying cybermen and the Brigadier.

But everyone who love the Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart should read that book.

DW: I.D.

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 94th big finish main range adventure ‘I.D.’. This is an adventure of the sixth doctor without a companion. The back cover says that it plays in the 32nd century. Ahistory is placing it around 3150 between ‘the brain of Morbius’ and ‘the beast below’. So for the Doctor it has been somewhere between Peri and Mel. Because he is traveling alone. If this is between or after Evelyn is hard to say.

Altering the character

The setting is interessting. The Doctor met a researcher. This group is working on recreate character treats. The do it with data. It seems like people are uploading their character and everything as data. It seems very interessting. What are the consequences of it and why whould people do such things. So this give us alot of interessting stuff to think about. But the first two episodes are not getting into this stuff. It seems like that zhr Scandroids want to transfer data and this data is killing people. So the maschines wander around and upload data into the humans brains and kill them with it.

On the surface

Except from the Doctor we know nothing in this story. We don’t know the time or the characters. We don’t no the big bad. Which means we are in this completely new world and his interessting background that don’t get used. It remembers me alittle of the cybermen and the end is for me a little to happy end. The characters are good and interessting but have way to little time to acctually get into your heart. This story is just to fast for what i could’ve been. If you understand what i mean. Sadly this is what i am telling about the most stories in the last time.

Bonus Story: Urgent Call

This story is the first one that have a short story on the disk. I had this story before it was one of the storys big finish overed to download for free when you have the right from the Doctor Who Magazine. I really like this story. It is different to the others. We have that character Laurel that doesn’t feel well and is calling her mother but instead the Doctor answered the phone. The only way the Doctor is playing in this story is when Laurel calls him be accidient. The whole story are just phone calls she makes and the story is in the background. She just got little parts of what happend from the Doctor.

The best thing in this story is that in the end she doesn’t know how it ends. The Doctor just vanished like always and let her with all the question back. Urgent Call is a really nice story and is totally worth to hear the story before on the disk.

DW: Renaissance of the Daleks

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 93th big finish main range adventure – Renaissance of the Daleks. This adventure is with the fifth Doctor and Nyssa. They are not alone on this adventure. They have four new companions in the TARDIS everyone out of a different time. Mulberry is a knight of templar and met Nyssa in 1320. Nyssa and Mulberry are landing in Petersburg 1864 at the time of the american civil war and met Floyd. 1967 they save major alice hunniford and take her with them. The Doctor is traveling with Wilton how seems to be out of a parallel universe. 2158 a year after the Dalek invate the earth but it didn’t happen.

Big group

This is really good. So many characters in the TARDIS. They are all very different even when they all are soldiers in a way. There is so much potential in the conactions between all this characters. This is the best part of the story. All that stuff about the different times and characters. It is fun to hear them try to work together and find out what happend. There is way more potential between them than just this adventure. But sadly they will not travel together longer.

Same old

Okay, i know that every Daleks story is in away the same old story over and over again. But this one of the story i didn’t like very much. The story is in away very boring. I like the characters but everything else seems so act on the survice. So many things doesn’t make much sense to me. Also i am i not a fan of humind Daleks. So the story is not getting me.

I am really sorry for the short articles. I will give my best to change that again.

DW: Nocturne

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 92 big finish main range adventure ‘Nocturne. It plays around 2800 (by AHistory – the TARDIS.wiki is saying 2797) on the planet Nocturne. The Seventh Doctor is visiting this periode of time alot and in different incarnations. This time he brings Hex and Ace.

Implications

In my head i think about which adventures Tegan or Mel had on that planet. With which others the Doctor visited his friends. Sadly i don’t know about big finish having other adventures their. I would love to have a few short stories about this meetings. It is like there are not always big problems, just the Doctor visiting his old friends and is quiet lovely to think about it. That he is no capiable of it. Not like the third Doctor.

Trip to Venice

I really want to know what the trips was like. Hex is telling a few time that it becomes more and more like his trip to Venice. This is actually one of the best thing of this adventure. The close way Hex, Ace and the Doctor act to each other. How they talk about their past and tease each other. Also this epsiode is giving Ace someone to bond with and i really beginn to love her. How easy she is opening her heart to this people and how vulnerable.
The adventure was just like a schooltrip to Venice.

Just what it is

The story feels warm and confortable. It is inviting us to a nice trip with friends and you can feel it. The danger don’t have many schockeffects or action. It is just happening. The atmosphere became darker and sadder the longer the story goes. But it never lost the familiar feeling. The Music that have a big role in the story is just underpin this story. The Music is beautiful and kinda sad. It remembers me why i love sometime classic music on the piano. They are caring so much feelings.
So the normal story about someone or something is killing people is becoming something special and make it to one of my favorite stories.

DW: Circuliar Time

Hey Guys,

here we go with the 91th big finish main range adventure ‘Circular Time’ with the fifths Doctor and Nyssa. The story consists out four shot stories named after the seasons. The story very different and i like the last two much more than the first. This four stories plays to differnt times. But the last story plays in the same time like the last story of the fifths Doctor.

Spring

The Story is about a meeting with another time lord. A time lord that left his planet to see the world. He stays on a planet with birdlike people and become something like their god. In this culture see things different. When someone did something bad, the one that got the punishment is the one closed to the one who did it.
Nyssa is offend by this. Also she is really shocked that the Doctor was exciled.
This story is about how a time lord is take his place as a good and trick the Doctor.

Summer

This is totally differnet story it plays one earth the Doctor and Nyssa got arrested because they wanted to pay with the wrong currency. Because he got to met Issac Newton. Someone that stoped being a alchemist. He is a difficult person. Which overthings everything and also got just out of the currency that they are time travlers and from earth. He looks at all the details and set them to new picture.

Autumn

This is really quieted story. It is about Nyssa and the Doctor making a pause. The Doctor plays cricket and Nyssa is writting a novel about herself, about Traken. Nyssa is meeting a man who is interessted in her and is going out with her. They talk about her writting and he is interessted in her. Also is she telling him the truth about her home planet but he don’t really believe her. It is lovely to see this side of Nyssa.

Winter

The last story plays in Nyssa future. It is after Terminus. She has know a husband and little baby. She found her luck and it is nice. But than she beginn to dream about the past and something gave her a special feeling so she use the dream maschine of her husband to find out what it is. The Doctor lived in a farm house and has children and a wife. He doesn’t really remember her.

DW: Year of the pig

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 90th big finish main range adventure ‘Year of the pig with the sixth Doctor and Peri. The Story plays in the year 1913. It is a very special episode. It will never be my favorite. But it has something i can hardly explain.

Tobe and the inspector

Tobe is a pig that is always eating and his nurse is watching the other guests of the hotel and describe it to him. He is not just a pig, he is a famous pig and has a few very special fans. One we meet is an lady that infollwing Peri and the Doctor in everything.
The inspector is a very special person. He is really not sympathic. The Doctor and Peri saves him from drowning. So he searches the contact to these two. But he is hiding something.

The problem with this story is that it is so special that i am afraid that i write the wrong thing and everyone knows what is the solution to this abstruse story. About pigs, experiments, time travel, emenies and friends. I always have the feeling that i over heard something. How the go to place to place. For me it is a pile of chaos that does shows everything.

DW: No Man’s Land

Hey Guys,

here we go with the 89th big finish main range adventure ‘No Man’s Land’ with the seventh Doctor and Ace and Hex. With Hex bad luck they land again in the time of war. This time it is the first world war it plays in 1917. They got an job to investigate a murder that didn’t take place yet in a militäry hospital.

Same Story over and over again

We know the Story. It is war and everyone wants to win it. Some people are ready to do anything for it. They want to make the soldier stronger. To give them a killer instinct, to take feelings away… in the end the humans always end to create something like cybermen. Of course their are no cybermen in this story but they are on the way. It is a step to this path.
But it is almost everytime a good story. We know what will happen and we know the Doctor is against it. The Doctor that wants to stop it.

Strength

This is about strength. What is strength and this is what i love about Doctor Who. Because Doctor Who is always (almost) telling you that strength has nothing to do with killing people. Don’t kill people is a strength. Hex is a man that many people accuse to be weak. Hex is against war and killing. He hates this war times. But he is not weak. He maybe don’t can defeat a soldier in a fight but he strong because he wants to help people and save them. He wants to make the world better. He is not afraid of getting in danger. He does it when things that it will help. But he is not running into danger. Hex is an amazing character and i really love the stories with him.
