DW: The Web Planet – rewatch

Hey Guys,

welcome to the story The Web Planet. It is a story over six episodes. The Doctor, Vicki, Ian and Barbara are landing on the planet Vortis with aliens in forms of giant insects. Ahistory and other novelisation place the story around 20.000.

Always the same

Like all the other Doctors the first doesn’t know what is going on in the TARDIS. This story is a story like this. The TARDIS doesn’t do what he wants. She stays at this planet and Ian and the Doctor go out to find the reason. What I like about this is Barbara. She is a very intelligent woman and she knows that there is a logic answer to what is happening to her and her bracelet – for me it looks like magnetic – but she doesn’t know the answer yet and it frightens her and she is not afraid to admit that.

Missing

The Web Planet is one of the stories that never really got me or I didn’t got the story. When you listen to Big Finish not just the stories but the interview you get a lot of opinions about different Doctor Who Stories. I actually don’t remember who said it but same one was talking about how great The Web Planet was and what this loved about it. So when I rewatched it wanted to see what this person saw. Sadly for me I didn’t. It wasn’t the costumes or that the stories wasn’t good. Somehow it is really hard for me to watch it. I don’t why or what it is that makes this story so uninteresting for me.
I am not a big fan of the costumes and you actually have to see it in the time it was made. Even I couldn’t remember who was who of this Menoptera. Everyone of them was slightly different. The story about an Invasion race and the fight against is great.

So the story has great things but still something seems to be missing for me. I still think that everyone should watch it. Even when the only reason is that there are just three stories left with Ian and Barbara and one of them The Crusade is partly missing.

The Tenth Doctor Adventures: One Mile Down

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 3rd Volume of The Tenth Doctor Adventures and the second episode ‘One Mile Down’ in which we follow Donna and the Doctor into their vacation to the underwater city Vallarasee. It never goes well when the Doctor and Donna do holidays. The last time the got a holiday was in the episode Midnight.

Changes

The Doctor had visited Vallarasee before but then everything was different. The last time the Doctor had to wear helmets to breath and swim everywhere like the underwater part imply. But when he arrives with Donna the city is drained of the water and the people of Vallarasee has to wear the helmets to survive. The city is protected by a dome and maybe it has a few little leaks. Water always finds a way…

New friends?

So often Donna and the Doctor are making new friends and get to know new people. Obviously also in this adventure we met new people. But this time the don’t really are sympathetic. We meet Patricia. She seems nice enough at first. Truth be told I liked her the first time I listened to it and then the end happened and when I listened again and really listened to what she says, I really start to dislike her. When you are in the same situation than her, you should think about some things. She is not a bad person, she is just not thoughtful?
The second person who is around them is Garth which is a really asshole and racist. The Doctor is always searching a fight with him. I get him. This guy is so annoying.

There are at their best

Doctor and Donna are amazing in ‘One Mile Down’. The Doctor is doing his thing and Donna just being to got for the world. No for really the story is really great. The story has everything. The amazing chemistry between Donna and the Doctor, the Doctor making it his job to save everyone and Donna not letting anyone behind. Vallarasee is a great world. There is so much in this story. What Tourism can do to city’s, what people do to save their people.

There are no solution to all the problems that are shown. It is just the stories of people doing mistakes, about money about love. About change and about beauty.

DW: The Dark Husband

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 106th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Dark Husband’ with the 7th Doctor and his companions Ace and Hex. It plays at sometime at another planet named Tuin. Ace is wanting a holiday and do something nice. Of course it doesn’t work out.

Let’s take a break

What can go wrong when you want a holiday? Hex finds broshure and the decide to visited the festival of Twin Moons of Tuin. Of course lands at the time when something bad had happened. They found a graveyard and no festival. Just this part makes me love the story. I mentioned it a lot that I wasn’t a fan of Ace in the series. But when I started listing to her stories with Hex, that really changed. She grows in all the stories and it is great to see her developement. Also I love the way these three characters interact with each other. It is always fun to listen to their banter.

Let’s end the war

So really fast the story developed from let’s take a break to let’s end the war. Apparently there are two race that are at war forever. They have the Festival ones a year. It is a little bit like the Christmas wonder. Every they make this festival they celebrate together and just stop the war for this time and after they just go back to it. To make this even more special you can stop the war by a marriage and of the Doctor jumps to the chance to end this but he doesn’t what he got into. It’s a typical we make up as we go story.

Dark Husband and Shining Wife

The atmosphere of the story is hard to describe for me. It is not a really dark story. The actor talked about it being a comedy in away. But I really don’t see it. I don’t share humor I think, because I can’t remember that I laughed at this story. So it is something between everything. I don’t think it is a bad story. Actually I like it. I just don’t see what is funny about it. Also I feel with my Hex. We got glimpses of what he feels for a special someone who doesn’t seem to see him that way. I love my babies.

The Tenth Doctor Adventures: No Place

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 3rd Volume of The Tenth Doctor Adventures and the first episode ‘No Place’ obviously with the tenth Doctor and his lovely companion Donna. But this time around we meet again with Donnas mom and grandpa Wilf. I really love Donna and I am so happy to have known adventures with her. I am not a big fan of her family but I still loved the episode were Donna interacts with them. Because it is always something.

Limited Edition

Before I talk a little about ‘No Place’ I want to talk about the Edition I bought. Obviously I bought again the limited edition. It is as beautiful as the other and has the same negative and positive aspects than the other two. In this limited edition you will get the three adventures of Donna and the Doctor. Than there is a Behind-the-Scenes Disc it is 1 hour 11 minuets long and also 50 minuet David Tennant at Big Finish Documentary.

Ghost House

So what to we have here. It is a classical horror story. We have a haunted house, a film crew that does ‘haunted makeovers’ and than we a loving family that wants to life there – or not. This lovely family is the Doctor and Donnas family. For this event they pretend that the Doctor and Donna are married. So do I really have to say more?

Did you see their faces

‘No Place’ is a great ghost story. It is fun to listen to them and you definitely can see their face in your mind, which is one of the reason I wish this would be a TV episode because the face are hilarious like the Doctor and Donna always were. It is a light story and mostly fun. What is better than a fun ghost story with these duo? Not much. So yeah go and get these adventures.

DW: The Condemned

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 105th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Condemned’ with the 6th Doctor and a new companion. The 6th Doctor is getting Charleys signal and save her from her stranded island (The Girl who never was). She realizes that this is former regenerate of the Doctor and doesn’t tell him who she really is. The TARDIS drops out on earth on the 28th February 2008 and they found a died body.

It is funny

I really like the new dynamic between Charley and the Doctor. He doesn’t really trust her but still is intrigued by her. She is trying to explain stuff without telling the truth or is trying to distract him. It makes it a really tricky situation and relationship.
Also they obviously manged to get into trouble. Charley gets kidnapped and hold in the building they found the body. She gets a phone call on a disabled phone from Sam who is a prisoner in the basement.

The Doctor got arrest for murder, because he is Doctor and that is what he does. But of course he also get’s him out of this situation and makes kinda friends with DI Menzies. DI Menzies is an amazing character. She is a police women that works on this case. She asking the right question and doesn’t closes the eyes from trust. I like humor and her way to handle things. She works very well with the Doctor – and as a little spoiler she will be around.

Go and listen to this story

I love the story. It is great who everything unfolde for them. It is like life something happens and it brings a lot to light that just not had much to do with stuff. The character work so well together and the atmosphere is created between them is so amusing. I am really looking forward to see these three work together again.

DW: The Girl who never was

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 103rd Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Girl who never was’ with the 8th Doctor and Charley. I know I was really quiet for a long time. Life never goes like you wanted. But let’s talk about the more important things Doctor Who. This adventure is the last adventure of Charley and 8th Doctor. The last time we lost C’rizz (Absolution). Charley can’t deal with who the Doctor deals with the death of C’rizz and wants to separate.

They are at their best

This adventure as it all. It has a great friendship at their end. Charley and the Doctor had so many adventures together. They were so close than C’rizz came and everything changed and when he died everything again. The way Charley is grieving and the way the Doctor is grieving or trying to avoid grieving doesn’t work together. So we have these both character that cares deeply about each other and still need to say farewell. The last adventure and it doesn’t work out like they thought. The story with each other are always the best when they are on their own. Charley is landing in 1942 on the Batavia – Batavia was a the last ship out of the harbour at the japanese siege of Singapore. The Doctor lands on the same ship in the year 2008.

I am Charlotte Pollard

The Doctor meets an old woman who tells him that she is Charlotte Pollard. She doesn’t remember what happened in 1942 and doesn’t remember the Doctor. Is she our Charley and the Doctor fails to save her and she just stays there and live her life. If she is not Charley than who is she really. The Doctor is trying to solve this mystery and find his Charley.

Charley on the other hand find herself in 1942 on the ship with the crew of the smuggler Byron. She also met a girl disguise as a boy on the ship. It is like throwback to her past when she run away and smuggled herself as boy on board. Isn’t it a great circle?

The End of the story

I like the story but it is war from the best we had from them. It feels most of the time like a farewell. It is time for both to move on and that is how the story feels for me. It is good but the best times are over and it is time for something new. Even both are not ready to really let go. Something it could go on and then next second you think no it can’t and that it is. It is an end of an era. It is a good goodbye to them. They were a great team but they never really got them totally right and that they kinda misunderstood what is going on is so them. It feels right as an end for them.

DW: Absolution

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 101st adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – Absolution. It takes place on the planet Utebbadon-Tarria with the eighth Doctor, C’rizz and Charley. This story brings the storyline around C’rizz to an end. It is not my favorite story but it focus on C’rizz and his developement. Which is a good thing.

The Hell breaks loose

Charley opens the Medallion of C’rizz and hell breaks loose. The TARDIS has problems and the Doctor doesn’t seems to get it back under control. It happens what had to happen. C’rizz get seperate from the other two.
Charley and the Doctor lands inside a barrier and C’rizz on the outside. So we have two sides. The one inside the barrier that have the barrier to protect themself from the outsider. Than we have the outsider who wants to get inside the barrier.

Dark

The atmosphere of the whole story is dark and cold. There is nothing fun or light in this story. It is just really dark. It is about death, religion, believes, fears… and of course manipulation. The story shows us that there is not always a happy end. That there is not always something you can do to make it better. The story ends and left you to deal with all that grief on your own. There is no light offered at the end of the tunnel.

With all that grief

It is great story. There are no excuses, no step backs, no rewriting history offered. We get just the dark reality of life.  I felt at the end like Charley. I get the Doctor. We all know how he deals grief. He just doesn’t. But after this I still felt like her. All that makes it a great story. I also love C’rizz developement in this story. I love him so much. The story itself is not mine but everything around and atmosphere is just great.

DW: Scaredy Cat

Hey Guys,
welcome to the 75th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – Scaredy Cat. The story puts the eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz on Endarra around the year 4.000.000. I am not sure were I got this information from – I believe recall that it was on the extras of Absolution. But this is one of the adventures that should have taken place in the Divergent Universe but got changed and now play in our universe.

SCaredy Cat, Scaredy Cat

What is going on here? That is the big question. The Doctor and C’rizz see a young girl and follow her to kind of shrine. This shrine as the girl they saw lying on dead and the app like natives are not happy that they are close to her. So the two of them traveling back in time to find out what happened there.
Charley is on the other hand on the facility that is making experiments on the natives to find the part of the brain that is responsible for being evil.

interesting set up

I like the setting. It has a lot of potential. I like themes like are people born evil or not and it would be a great story about this. But it is kinda gets more in the background the longer the story goes. Then we another interesting theme. The problem with getting involved with the events, with changing time. The interesting part is that C’rizz don’t really understand time and this means he doesn’t understand what the Doctor wants to protect. Which has a lot of potential but it also just got shortly addressed.

Great Team

There is lot I like about the adventure. I like Charley on her own. She is always the most sympathetic on her own. Also to see C’rizz and the Doctor team up is great. C’rizz who tries to understand the Doctor and this believe he has in the Doctor. You could do so much with this. But the story just kinda stays light-minded.

DW: Terror Firma

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 72nd adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – Terror Firma. This is the first adventure of the eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz back in our universe. So that the Doctor really believe he is back he runs into the arms of his biggest enemies the Daleks, which has conquered the earth around 4703. It is a sequel to ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’.

It seems that there is another story ‘War of the Daleks’ that seems to be get ignored by this story. ‘War of the Daleks’ reckons the destruction of Skaro. Since Davros in this story wants revenge for the destruction of Skaro it seems to ignore the book. My source how ever things it is possible since Davros is like losing his mind, the Daleks may control him to believe Skaro is destroyed.

Home sweet Home

Who could welcome the Doctor back in his universe than the Daleks. I actually like this one. The three of them get captured by the Daleks, who has conquered the earth to take everything from the Doctor. What we got is the Doctor talking to Davros about change, about what defines who you are, Davros trying to use the Doctor to die. We got a Davros that doesn’t want to become a Dalek. This is quiet ironic and I love it.

Charlotte or Charley

What I love about the story is that even when Charley and C’rizz don’t have much scenes with each other. The relationship develops. They finally start to becoming friends, to getting closer. C’rizz gets separate from Charley and is more or less alone in a totally different universe. He always gets himself in the darkest situations. Also there is always something about him, what you can’t grasp. He has this dark side in him and sometimes we can see it.

Charley is also on is own but she as always more luck than C’rizz. She finds herself on a party and what a party this is.

Missed it

This story was fun. It has Daleks, the Doctor and his great companions. We got a dark side to C’rizz and so much more. It is fun and dark, it is also deep and sometimes you could just shake your head, but ultimately it is just great fun to listen to this story.

DW: Live 34

Hey Guys,
welcome to the 74th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – Live 34. My sources put the story around 2400 since they say that earth was abaondend centuries ago. From the setting it fits with the setting of ‘The happiness Patrol‘. The seventh Doctor, Hex and Ace are on the colony 34.

Live on 34

The story is easy. On colony 34 the situation is restless. The premier wants to stay in power. But a group of people think that it is time to finally have the election they wait for 4 years. People are unsatisfied. There are a lot of problems when you listen to them and none problem at all when you believe the premier. It is not easy to see the truth or is it.

Something different

What Big Finish does here is one reason I love them so much. It is a good story. But this time it doesn’t get presented the way we used to. The whole story is told in news and media broadcast. Which means we don’t see what the Doctor and his friends are doing. Don’t know what they know and what they want. We only get what the normal population knows, statements and reports. Maybe we gets part of the truth or maybe it is just manipulated?

How free is the media really and who much can you depend on the information. It is so easy to put a situation in different light. When you know what Ace know, you maybe would say that she is right. But when you just here about bombs exploding it just pains another picture.

Totally in love

I really love the story. The Doctor appears in all four episodes but is role is not so big. Ace appears in the second episode and Hex in the third. I like the way they tell the story and the story itself. Thematic is great and it is the perfect way to show this thematic. They show us how easy it is to change the situation without changing the facts.
