DW: The Stone Rose

Hey Guys,
now that i sadly had read every book of the ‘New Serie Adventure‘ with the ninth Doctor, i started the Stone Rose the first book of the serie with the tenth Doctor. The Story takes place in the 120’s the ancient Rome. Rose and the Doctor are travling there because Mickey found in 2007 a statue looking like Rose. This first part the big family trip to the national museum is really funny. But watch holds the rest of the book for us.

Who is it?

I don’t know how it was when the book was publiced. But i think it was like now with the twelfth Doctor. That the author had to writte about the new Doctor without really nowing him. The get a little information and had to work with it. I hope that it is that way. Because i don’t find the tenth Doctor in that book. There are little things like the Doctor trying to adjust to the time he visit. I don’t think i can recall any Doctor that would’ve done that. The Tenth Doctor visit greek in his coat and chucks… he never change, the tenth Doctor is an extremly emotinal Doctor. Here i doesn’t see this in him. The tenth Doctor is the Doctor that is part of the family. He is staying for dinner with Rose and her Mam. He is building a conaction to Mickey. He is not the one anymore that goes out searching the adventure on his own.

Fortuna

We have Rose as goddess Fortuna, a missing person, a slave that seems to see the future or not, a artist that makes skupltures with out even working on it. We all know how is most suspecious to be the suspect in this missing case. In the end we have alot of stuff going on and the whole story becomes a big paradox. Too much for my liking but the book did something i really like. The Doctor got a lot of time to have an adventure on his on and Rose have hers too. That is not oven the case. Also i apprechiat the way Rose is portrayed from the Doctor. She is a lot like the describe Fortuna. This is Rose. She is not the perfect girl. She can be for a few people like goddess or just an ordinary girl, she can be nice and cruel. She left Mickey… i really like Rose, but to often people forget that she was cruel to Mickey. That she broke his heart and than always gave him hope for more. We should remember her good sides and her bad sides, and she had like every human being alot of flaws.

DW: The Clockwise Man

Hey Guys,
so here we go with the first adventures from the New Serie Adventures The Clockwise man. The ninth Doctor is visiting with Rose London in October 1924 to see the British Empire Exhibition. The Story takes place after the story The Unquiet Dead. Rose reverse alot to it in the Story.

Tick, Tock, goes the clock…

Tick, tock, this is also how the story goes it is stedy it have no ups and downs, it just goes tick, tock, … Also you may have sensed it, it goes about the clock-robots (what was their name?). We see them in episodes like ‘The Girl in the fireplace’ or ‘Deep Breath’ but they accured also in earlier stories like ‘The Mind Robber’. I never was a big fan of them but they work mostly in the stories very well.
They story has his turns but it turns so slow that you can see them coming in the long way. To be honest the ‘biggest’ twist i didn’t see but i wasn’t surprised because if you look clearly it was scream in your face. Most of the time you are just to focused on the kid.

The little Prince

The Story about the kid – Freddie – isn’t important at all. I love Freddie he is sweet and you can so feel with him. He is the best in this story and sometime i was very afraid that he will not survive. I most saw to my shame that i like Rose totally don’t make the circle but the haemophilia. This was really sloopy reading on me side. For Freddie it was worth reading the book.

So this book is some of the really weak books, but it has Freddie in it and he is a really good character.

DW: Sands of Time

Hey Guys,
i was fighting with this Doctor Who Book ‘Sands of Time’. It is the 22th book of the Missing Adventure Serie and get her print in the Monster Collection. The 5th Doctor is traveling with Tegan and Nyssa and it takes place after Adrics death. The whole is playing in very different time periodes.

Different Times and persons

The biggest problem of the book is that it has to many different times and views to tell. We have two sides of the view of different people. It springs in time and people and you don’t now where, when and who you are. Also nothing of this seems logic because everything the Doctor does he did because he did it before. So in this story doesn’t seemed to be a beginning and an real end. With the time everything gets clearer but i hate to read such little croutons…

An endless circle?

There is a lot of stuff not explained – just a few little things that bother me. Also this story is a circle kinda like the novel Festival of Death. It is not clear were the start point is and were the end, because the do things because they now they do it. But why did they do it in the first place? The bad people do things because they now they happend… but were did it all start.

Nyssa and Tegan

I am not a big fan of these both companions. But this book is not nice to the characters. Tegan has a little to do, but mostly she is bored and Nyssa just has do be a mummy… so they don’t have a good character arc any moments to shine. The only good thing about the book is how they play with the stories in tv serie – like Pyramids of Mars and Black Orchid

DW: The Blood Cell

Hey Guys,
i read the first book of Doctor Who with the twelfth Doctor – the blood cell. It is part of the New serie Adventure and take place somewhere when Clara and Danny are already dating. I would say it has to be after he was the janitor. Because she is talking about bringing the Doctor with her to school. I read the book in one day, i think that says alot about the book.

My Adventures with the Doctor

This book is complete written in the first person. It is little special, because the athor choose a person we don’t know. Also it is not real a sypampty carrier. He is the Governor of a prison, where the Doctor is send in. So the Governor as the pleasure of dealing with the Doctor. Also he has a lot of problems with his prison. All the systems are malefunction.

Twelfth Doctor

This book as a difficult task. Because they had to write the Doctor before they have seen him. So most of the time it could be the twelfth Doctor, but on other time you think that this isn’t what the twelfth Doctor would do. For example making baloon animals for the kids…but i will look over this because, all this was written before the athor has seen how Peter Capaldi played him. Most of the time it doesn’t show because of the first person way of telling the story.

Clara

I think everyone knows Clara i don’t have to tell you who she is. Here in this book she is our typical Clara. But it is a little sad that she got really little action. Just in the end she can run away with the Doctor and got captured. This is the only part that i don’t like about the book.

The story is not a great, special story. But it is good enough to work. It works just fine, it is a little different and interessting enough to keep me ready the whole night. So yeah read it.

DW: Scales of Injustice

Hey Guys,
i started to read the Scales of Injustice of the Monster Collection. The Story was printed as a part of the ‘Missing Story’-Serie. It featured the 3rd doctor, Liz Shaw and UNIT, it takes place between the Storys ‘Inferno’ and the ‘Terror of the Autons’. AHistory is ordering it between ‘The Blue Tooth’ (Companion Chronicles #13) and ‘the Devilgoblins from Neptune’ (Past Doctor Adventure #1).

Liz Shaw

I always like Liz. She is a good person, competent and really intellegent. But also very controlled and seems often a little cold. She is much alike with the 3rd Doctor. This way never get with them. They really devoleped a conaction to each other. They were colleges and nothing more. So simular to open up. I never was sad that Liz left UNIT. This book is the last adventure from in UNIT. At the end of the book she left and i think that is best decision she made in her life. She is better than be an assitent for the Doctor. She wasted her potential at UNIT. For Liz is example of someone which becomes better without the Doctor, better by leaving the behind. She moved. She really likes him and they could have amazing friends, but they never were.

Positive Thinks

I love the way we get an inside in every important UNIT member. We get a inside in the Doctor, Liz and most importantlly in Mike, Benton and the Brig. We see a part his private life. We see how it breaks apart. This for me the most important part of the book and the reason i like it. Also i love how the describe the relationship between Benton and Brig. Benton is always standing on the sidelines and often he is totally for gotten. We see the Brig or Mike from times but so less something of Benton. He was there from the beginning. He is so loyal and a good character and he needs more appreachiation.

Story

This whole thing with C19 and the Glashouse and so one doesn’t make much sense to me. It was chaos and everyone was special, changed and the story doesn’t get me. So we have that whole conspiracy and Silurian in the mix. The Silurian Story was also not the newest or best. But i love the last part when Liz is with them. It showed us that some people are better and Liz is one of them. I love how the take this story to give Liz a reason to leave and do good in her own way. She doesn’t run away from aliens and the danger. She choose to help them another way, maybe not direct way but an indirect way.

Doctor Who: EarthWorld

Hey Guys,
it gets complicated in EarthWorld, if you haven’t read the adventures before. So this book is issue 43 from the ‘Eight Doctor Adventures’ and was reprint for the 50th anniversary Collection. What for my thinking was a bad decision. The book is really good but to that later. But it plays with the memories of Fitz Fortune (also know as Fitzgerald Michael Kreiner) and a memory loss of the Doctor. We you don’t know what happend it is a little irritating. This time i will start with a little get too know the companions:

Fitz Fortune and Anji Kapoor

Fitz Story is really complicated when you just read a summery of it. When he first met the Doctor, the doctor travels with Samantha Jones. His travels with the Doctor are like a hop on and off bus. What i definitly know is that Fitz had take is memories and placed them in a Remembrance Tank what rebuilt him. In EarthWorld they say that is not just a copy, that he has the essance of Fitz in him. This re-remembering Fitz lifes a long time away from the Doctor. When the Doctor found him in the end he let the TARDIS re-remember the Fitz he was when they met. So they began to travel again. Than their cames the part i don’t understand, because they are taking about Gallifrey being destroyed by the Doctor – that is why the Doctor forget everything. Again Fitz and the Doctor lost each other but remet in 2001 without memories of who he is.
Anjis Story is quite simple, this book is just he second adventure with the Doctor. She is twenty-eight and had a boyfriend, actor and science fiction fan Dave Young. But he died during a Kulan invasion of Earth. She met Fitz when her boyfriend get into it and he said that the Doctor can help her. But the Doctor isn’t quite himself without memories. When her boyfriend died, she just wants back to work and grieve. But the Doctor can quite find the right time. It is a little like Tegan.

EarthWorld

So the Story plays in the year 2800 on a planet New Jupiter, with people from earth. Most people or the king is an earth fan. They try everything to be like the earth and so on. But their are also the people against it. This terror group is called ANJI.
I like the idea of the book. The new jupiter built a theme park ‘Earthworld’ and the didn’t get the history quite right. So we have a few nice thinks on that. Like the king of Rock, becomes the king of the earth. It is funny to read what they think about the earth.

Everyone against everyone

We have a lot of different interesst groups. There is the king, that just want to be the best king he could be – and so like the earth as they could be. Than there are his 3 daugthers that have totally different plans and are a little crazy. Than there is ANJI that wants to sapotage the theme park, and two other person with different interesst, that i don’t want reveal here. Because the plot is not really surprising but it would take a lot of fun out of the story if you know everything. And between all that we have our heros.

The grief

Anji has the mean part in this book and it is nice to see what she thinks. She as really nice thought like get a T-Shirt with ‘i am the main character, don’t kill me’. She doesn’t want to travel with the Doctor. She just wanted back in her life. That is what makes her really sympatic. Also i like how the book handle her grief. So we can read little messages she wants to send to her dead boyfriend.

The parts with Fitz

These parts are quite confussing. Like told you above, we get much memories of Fitz and that deficult story. They are talking about people i don’t know, Sam, Fillpa, the Compassion… it sound all really interessting, but with out any background knowledge it is just like: ‘cool, i don’t get it.

So yes i can only recommand the book, but i would advise everyone to read the 42 books before that. Because the Fitz part is really confussing.

DW: Players

Hello Guys,

It is the sixth book of the 50th Anniversary Collection (Past Doctor Adventures) from Doctor Who and is featuring the sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) with his companion Peri.

The book is a little patchy. It goes about Churchil and a group of people trying to interfere with his history. They are trying to kill him and it seems like it is a kind of a game. We just don’t know the rules or the goal. This is the interessting part of it. The other part is Hitler again… Of course it is this time, but i have problems with the way the most medias deal with that topic. In that book it is not so bad. I don’t know much about that time in England so i don’t know who good the time is written, but it seems realistic.

What i really like is that we met old friends. The solider of ‘the war games’ for example. Also we met the second doctor again. This is an amazing good a idea and i love how they play with it. Peri have a little action for herself can totally shine. What i find a little sad is that this Doctor is so nice. Of course the Doctor lose a little of his ‘hard’ side but he is for my picture of the sixth doctor to nice. I hoped for little more sarcastic Doctor, a little snippy?!

It is nice to get a little history about Winston Churchill. I don’t feel the tension. It jsut walks slowly and it is not my thing. It is nice to have so many faces you know to see interact with each other but it is not enough.

The last chapter makes a good end. At first i thought that it was unsatisfying but i read the last few pages and thought about it, it is on of the best ends you can make i think.

The next book is Earthschock with the eighth Doctor, because the book of the seventh book of the 50th Anniversary Collection is just the book about the episode. So i watch it and i don’t need to read it.

DW: Harvest in time

Hi Guys,

after the big let down of the book with the third Doctor i got a recommend from felicityredbarrow  as a good book of the 3rd doctor. So i was really excited to read this book. It featured the third Doctor ( Joe Pertwee), Jo Grant and UNIT.

As i told you the last time, i am not a big fan of the 3rd doctor, but i love his Companions and UNIT so much, that i fall in love with this era and the doctor. One of the big negativ points in the last book were the way the characters are written. In this book the characters are really well written. Jo is never doing what she think is right, the Brig and Mike and the others are very fitting. The Part of Benton could been larger but you can’t have anything. But the best character was totally the master. You can see so much facetts of the master in this book all are totally the master. It’s totally amazing how the autor is playing with this character and the bond between him and the Doctor.

So~ the start was a bit much different perscetive, but it found a really good story flow. Everything was fitting. I really like the Story. Jo and UNIT are fighting against an invasion of aliens and the doctor has to save the master. It’s a great dynamic. The end is a little bit timeywhinny but i can live with it. So everyone who love UNIT or the master should totally read that book.

So thank you for the recommand.

See you later guys.

DW: Ten Little Aliens

Ten little Aliens is a doctor who book from the ‘Past Doctor Adventure‘-Serie. It got reprint for the 50th Anniversary Collection.

The book featured the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and his companions Polly and Ben. Many of the adventures of this three are partially or complete missing. So it is a good thing to have some action with these characters.

I am sorry i think for a real critic i need to read it again. But what i can tell us is:

At first i needed a little time to get the story of the other ‘characters’ of the Story. But there are a few really interessting people and they have a real role. The interaction with Polly and Ben or the Doctor are really good and entertaining. Also the book is kinda sad, it has some heavy staff in it ( as far as i remember). It was a really interessting book. It was good to read with well written characters.

Just one thing i didn’t like it was how Ben interacted with Polly in a few scenes. I don’t know if this is his charcter and i just don’t like that part of him or it was the writer.

DW: Fear of the Dark

Hi Guys,

It is the fifths book of the 50th Anniversary Collection (Past Doctor Adventures) and is featuring the fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) with his companions Nyssa and Tegan. It takes places after adrics death, Tegans departure and meeting again and before they met Thourlough.

At the beginning we have a insight of Nyssa and Tegan. We will learn more about their feelings or so it seems. What is really interessting. But i don’t like the beginning of the book. I mean the written things are good, but the splitting is not my  taste.  For some stories this works well but here i don’t see the sense in it. I will try to describe what i mean. So the book start with Nyssa and the nightmare and than the next part takes place in a mine and Nyssa is hurt. Than the next part is placed after the nigthmare in the TARDIS and than we have the part in the mines with talking. Than we land after this talk thing on a moon and they go out and the earth crubbeld. Than again the mines and Nyssa is awaiking. We are jupping in time with no really reason because know we are in the same time. The earth crubbled and they fall in the mines and than the mine parts take place.

So form my taste it is just annessesary jumping in the time levels.

The persons i find interessting did have much screen time. We have an alien with the crew and find out a little about there life and culture. This is something i find very interessting. How they thing and feel. I just can’t get them totally but it is totally one of the strong points in this book. Also we see the Doctor getting near to lose. Nyssa was nearly dying in his arms. We can see totally what Adric had left in him. I really like to see this other side of the Doctor.

What i really find interessting is Nyssa. We totally get much more about her character, her feelings and so on. Even if she is not really doing anything. Also the book shows a side of the Doctor that everyone often forget. He is using Nyssa and her ill state for his goals.

So we also see the worst fear of the Doctor – losing his friends, letting them down.

I really love the book. After the confusing beginning it really is an interessting story and really amazing. The end is a little ansatisfied. But it is really worth a read.
