Torchwood: Sargasso

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 4th adventure of the 5th season of Big Finish’s Torchwood ‘Sargasso’ with Rhys Williams. I always love the ones with Rhys. It seems to play between ‘Children of Earth’ and ‘Miracle Day’ because he says that Gwen used to work for Torchwood and the already have their daughter.

Rhys bloody Williams

I just wrote the whole article and wanted to save it and everything was lost… now I try to remember what I had written. Rhys is one of my favorite supporting character. He doesn’t come up with the big plans or is the action hero. But he is good guy and he has his mistakes but he is good in taking care of people and make in this case Kaitlin fight through their situation. He doesn’t give up.

Lost at sea

Just a simple job for Rhys ends up again in a disaster. He and Kaitlin, who he meets on the container ship, are lost in the sargosso sea and the crew left the ship. The atmosphere they are creating here is amazing. You can feel the dark and the coldness just like ship dark, cold and full of plastic. The atmosphere gets lighting up by the chemistry of Rhys and Kaitlin. They are different and have different ways of seeing the world. The little discussions are fun.

similar scenario

We had a similar scenario on Doctor Who ‘Praxeus’ in which the Doctor for a moment suspect the Autons, who are the enemies here. I like this take on the problematic more. In ‘Praxeus’ they kinda used a sledgehammer to get their message across. Here it feels more subtle. It is still the same message. But here they don’t hit you with it. So I really like this story. It works great and gets the message across and we get again an old enemies of the Doctor.

Torchwood: Sync

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 3rd adventure of the 5th season of Big Finish’s Torchwood ‘Sync’ with Suzie Castello and the Mayor of Cardiff. At first it is not clear when this is taking place in Suzie timeline. Magrette and Suzie meet at the crash side of a spaceship and she thinks Suzie is a UFO spotter.

A special bond

Like I said they meet on the crash side of a spaceship. We don’t know why Suzie is there but we know it is not for Torchwood. Magrette is searching for a way to leave earth. After the crash the ship bonds them together so they don’t loose each other until help arrives. Which means that they can’t leave each others side. Also what ever shot the spaceship down is firing missiles at them. So they have to find a way to break the bond and stop these missiles.

Simularity

Both are really different people but they are really similar in many ways. They both are outsiders and play people that they not really are. Both of them has they very own agenda and they are ready to make everything to get what they want. Actually they are both crazy and that probably is the reason we they get along so good. They form are a special pair.

It is also the reason why this is a fun story. It is not one of my favorite but it is still fun to listen to this very special pair and the unique friendship that they share. I like the stories with Suzie because she is so hard to read. She is for me the bad one. It never was really different but I find it interesting to see what she plans and what she want to achieve. You know that she has a secret agenda but you never quiet sure what she is after.

Torchwood: The Green Life

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 2nd adventure of the 5th season of Big Finish’s Torchwood ‘The Green Life’ with Jack and Jo Grant. This was one of the adventure I really looked forward to. I really love Jo. She was such a great character and pairing her with Jack promise so much fun. This is a sequel to ‘The Green Death’.

Bickering

I could just listened to them bickering all the time. It is so much fun to listen to them. They they interact is so perfect and so Jo and Jack. Jo got older and she lived her live without the Doctor for a while and I always love the Doctors Companion who don’t regret leaving him. I really loved it when the show us that these people had great time with the Doctor and their miss him but the actually are happy in their life. Jo is one of the people who tried to make so much out of her life. She fought to make the world better, she traveled and never regretted leaving.

Difference

Jo left the Doctor and it has her decision and Jack got left and never got quiet over it. He also use to find a solution with a gun when Jo just don’t like them. It is quiet interesting to see them fighting with each other to find a way to achieve the same thing. I really loved this story. It is a typical Torchwood story. Torchwood itself like a big gray area and they never have a totally ‘white’ solution. Torchwood is just so imperfect and it is so love to see. Because Doctor sometimes things he so much better than the humans. The third Doctor for me had always this way of thinking that he has the only right solution. I think most solutions of Torchwood would get his approval. But they tried their best. So it is great to see Jo understanding that. She doesn’t like Jack solution but she listened to him and understands.

High Expections

I had such high expectations for this adventure and it was even better than I imaged it. I think they captured not just Jo’s character perfectly but also the feeling you had watching ‘The green Death’ and the UNIT. It shows the past and how it is now. I really love it. Jack and Jo are a great time and I had a lot of fun listening to this adventure.

Torchwood: Night of the Fendahl

Hey Guys,

welcome to the first adventure of the 5th season of Big Finish Torchwood ‘Night of the Fendahl’. It is the 25th adventure in total and it doesn’t feel like it is going that long and that I listened to so many of them. They were all so great. But back to this particular one. It is with Gwen Cooper and it is a sequel to the old story ‘Image of the Fendahl’. The story place at some point after she got her kid. So I would image it is after season 4 of Torchwood.

Hello I am your victim

That is how the story starts. I was what is going on. They are going to film a snuff movie and Gwen is playing the victim in it. This brings us to the question what is wrong with Gwen. Because she would never take part in such a thing. You all know that I am not a big fan of Gwen. But she is strong and will never act like this. So something seems to posses her.

Dark…

The story is a really dark one. You can see the dark night in front of your eyes, the rain pouring down, thunder… it creates a really dark and cold atmosphere. Than there are the four man who are up to no good. It feels like the danger is right there to grab. Actually I feel really uncomfortable when I heard the adventure. It is like you just want to turn around and run far away. But you can’t. You know that Gwen wouldn’t run. You know that Gwen will not bow to anyone but somehow it is not Gwen so you don’t feel so secure. So everything can happen to her.

Phil the good one…

Three of the man feel like aggressors. The fourth Phil feels different. He seems trying to help Gwen, to make her leave but just with words. But he is not going… he is still going through with it. But it doesn’t really feel like he is forced to be there. He may not really want to be there but one the other hand he wants to. When she doesn’t run, he is starting to blame her. On the first one he looks like is better than the others but I think in the end he is as bad as all of the others.

It is great and dark and it feels so uncomfortable but still go and listen to it. It is a great story.

Torchwood: Deadbeat Escape

Hey Guys,

welcome to the last adventure of the 4th season of Big Finish Torchwood ‘Deadbeat Escape’ with Bilis Manger. So you can imagine that this is one of the adventures I wasn’t that excepted for. I never really like the character or found him that interesting. But everything that Big Finish had touched so far turned to be amazing. So yeah this story is no different.

Do you really want to check in

The Travelers Halt is hotel shortly before Cardiff and have seen better days. What is the mystery of this hotel and Bilis Manger that will all know from the Torchwood story ‘Captain Jack Harkness’. Hywel Roberts wants to stay in the hotel for one night because of the pouring rain. He is on his way to see is ill father. Just to find out that he is stuck in a trap. The whole is a big trap.

The mystery of Bilis

Like I said before I never interested in this character. So maybe I also forget a lot about him. What I remember is that he got out and wanted to feed on people and so Jack gave his life. So for me he was just another bad guy. But was he really a bad guy. He doesn’t look like a good guy. But this story makes me thing that there is way more to his character than just being the bad guy and I find myself asking who he really is. Why he can travel in time and what he believes in and what fights for. I starting to be interested in his story, his background. What is the mystery of this man.

The reason I love this story so much is because you never know the role of Bilis. Is he the one who set the trap, does he try to help them or does he just use them to get what he wants. You never really know and that makes it so good.

Torchwood: Instant Karma

Hey guys,

welcome to the 23rd adventure of Big Finish Torchwood ‘instant Karma’ with Toshiko Sato. She developed algorithms to find patterns. This patterns lead her to a group of people.

Anger

It is a group to help people who have this anger in them. But it doesn’t seem like it really helps them but that the leader is using them. I mean it is so easy. How many times were you angry at people. Go to the supermarket and there is a 50% chance that someone does something that annoys you. I work in the gastronomy. How time do I want slap our guest because they make a stupid comment or they be aggressive to you. This anger this story is about that is an anger that everyone knows.
Obviously we don’t want to kill them. But if you have this ‘gift’. So easy to give in to this anger. If you give in this anger. Anger can become so fast hatred.

The danger of charismatic people

This story is not just about anger but about people who are charismatic and tries to use this. People that can talk can be so dangerous. With this anger and charisma it is easy to make people follow you. Because they want to believe. But it is so easy to lose control. This story is so close to reality. I mean they have abilities but even without this ‘gifts’ it something that happens. charismatic people are out there using the anger, hurt of other people for their benefits.

happy endings

When you look at the stories of Toshiko Sato there is always such a sad end. She lost so much and still tries to believe so hard in people. It is a gift and a curse for Tosh. This need to help and save everyone and so often failing not because not good in what she does but because humans are not that good. I love her so much and I love that adventure.

Torchwood: Goodbye Piccadilly

Hey Guys,

I will about find my balance with my new job, my life and my blog, which brings me to one of my favorite stories of Big Finish this year – Torchwood: Goodbye Piccadilly. I heart it already so often but never found the time to write about it. It is a Torchwood adventure I waited for ‘three’ years! It takes place after Ghost Mission and is with Andi and Norton again. My new favorite ship of Torchwood.

I visited you. Now you visit me.

This time Norton brings Andi into the past. Norton is in a delicate situation and has to prove to Torchwood that he is not a traitor. Are we really sure he is traitor? I for sure don’t know which side he is one in the end. But that is the most amazing thing about Norton right. You just have to love him. You don’t know if you can trust him but you want to trust him.
Back to the actually story. Norton is allowed to choose one person to help him and he choose Andi, which brings Andi in a lot of unasked situations – like waking up naked chained to a bed with Norton.

My shipping heart can’t take it

It is dream. Andi and Norton totally start of were they left things the last time. The fight all the time and it is so much fun to listen to them. Norton is as helpful as always and Andi tries to find out what is going on. I love how Andi fight with Norton and totally knew that something wasn’t right with the things he told Andi but he still trusts him enough to actually help him. He as a respect for him that is amazing and the way he tries to understand more of him made my day. Norton is as open as always and on the same time as closed of as always.
The relationship between them is full of great chemistry.

What is the truth

The story is fun. It has action, it has a mysterious alien artifact, a lot of humour. It has everything an amazing Torchwood story needs. Andi and Norton are running through London 1950s and this half of the time naked… just image…
The best thing about the story is that you like Andi try to find out what Norton actually wants. What is the true Norton and what is played. In the end you know as much as Andi does. This story shows as so much more about Norton and still keep him a mystery.
But the biggest mystery in the end is something else and it will bring Norton a lot of sleepless nights.

Listen to it or not

Definitely listen to it. You will have a lot of fun. This definitly my favorite Torchwood story this year. It is not just a great story with great characters but also spiked with a lot of information about Shoho in this time.
I really hope we will get a lot more about these two. I like the idea of box-Sets just about them. Give me more Norton and Andi.

Torchwood – The Death of Captain Jack

Hey Guys,

welcome back to the fourth season of Big Finish Torchwood and the first adventure ‘The Death of Captain Jack’. It is a story with Jack Harkness and John Hart. I had really high expectations because John Hart. I love this character and the episode are always fun. So this adventure could also be named ‘The many times John and Jack had sex’.

Dynamic

The important thing when John Hart was in an episode of the dynamic between him and Jack. This love/hate relationship. The friendship and the jealousy between them. They just cant without each other and definitely can’t with each other. This was what Big Finish got across perfectly. They are so similar in many ways and so different in other ways. This dynamic between when you never know if the will save or kill each other. That is so amazing about the John Hart character you never knew which side he will choose – except his own.

Changing History

The Story is about the relationship between John and Jack – what makes it really amazing himself. But it is also a story about John taking things, changing things in History. He is breaking all the rules of time traveling. He is marrying the queen and that are just a few of the changes he makes. Almost everyone has a short role in this. I doesn’t want to say more because you need to listen to this story.

Listing or not

Definitely listing to it! It is a great story. It doesn’t count to the best story and will not make it to my favorite list but it is still amazing. Also it brings John Hart back what is amazing on his own. I missed John Hart. It is a great start in a really great season. Because there are amazing team ups already planned. I can’t wait for the next one with Owen Harper and Ianto Jones.

Torchwood: Corpse Day

Hey Guys,

welcome to the third and at the time best Torchwood adventure this season ‘Corpse Day’. This is the first Owen Harper adventure and i was really excited about it. Owen was the only one that wasn’t back yet. But it is not just Owen. In this adventure he teams up with Andy what actually is a great combination.

Owen and the Corpse Day

Corpse Day is a day were Torchwood offers their help to the police. What most of the time don’t end well. Jack thought it would be funny to send Owen for this corpse day because he is a corpse. What actually makes it really clear at which time this is playing – between his two death.
After his death he got even more – i don’t find the right word for it.
We all know Owens history. We know that he was a doctor and what he lost and how he stopped believing in a good end. He is eaten up with the life.

I love Owen because he is for me a person were all the oppesits united. He is eating up about life but also has so much respect for life. He has hard and sarcastic shell and inbetween he is slowly dying because of his inability to save people.

Andy surprises me

We don’t know much about Andy and this story shows us another side of him. I don’t want actually say to much but i was surprised by Andys reaction. I would never thought he would reacted that way, but when you think about it, it is logic. It is Andy. It is a side we didn’t see because he never had a big part in Torchwood before. Here we see more sides of him. To pair Andy and Owen together with that kind of story is a masterpiece. They are the oppists of each other. Owen shows us a darker side of Andy. They made the character flaws of each other more visible.

The way it goes

I don’t want to say much because the story is great and not what you thought at the beginning. You can piece it together a little faster than Owen but it still goes in a direction i didn’t thought of. It starts as fun part because really Andy and Owen… but don’t except a funny and light story. The gets really fast really dark.
It is such a cruel and real story. It left you with a lost feeling. It leaves you with alot to think about.

Really this for now my favorite Torchwood story this season and here i really love the way they tell it, the way the leave the end. It is just all we need to make our own thoughts and our own decission about what this end is.

Torchwood: The Dollhouse

Hey Guys,

welcome to another adventure of Torchwood – The Dollhouse. Like every season there is at least one adventure about a person you don’t know or barely now. So this adventure is not just with persons we don’t know, we also leave the country. This story is taking place in America Los Angeles in the year 1970 with the three angels.

Charlies Angels

The whole story is built like ‘Charlies Angels’. I never saw the original serie but the movies. The movies starts with telling us the background story of the three angels and this is totally what happend here. So this is fun but also i wasn’t a big fan of the idea but it turns out to be really good. What i like is that here the unfair and hard reality that always was in Torchwood is still part of it. Torchwood is no fairy tale and the angel can not mysterical everything. They are so human in everything they do. I fall in love with this three people so fast and the best thing is the last scene. That is how the movie should have ended.

Do you want to be an actress?

The story is good. Young girls disapear and all of them wanted to be an actress. They all are by the same agent and a word in there files ‘Dollhouse’. Like i said the story is good. It is built so you just know as much as our angels. It has a little action, a little humor and a little dramatic. It has everything a good story needs. What i think is that they could have had a little more time on the topic what actually is going on. But that is just me and the more i think about it is maybe better that the gave a us just what they gave us.

So of you go to fight with our three angels.
