DW: Project: Lazarus

Hey Guys,

welcome the second part of the Project-Trilogy(Project: Twilight, Project: Destiny). In the 45th adventure of Big Finish Main Range Project: Lazarus Evelyn and the sixth Doctor are going to save Cassi. The first to episode are about this three and the second two episodes are with the sixth Doctor and the seventh Doctor.

According to Professor Harket’s journal the story takes places on the 18th July 2004. It is a little different to say. Because it plays a few years after Project: Twilight which is set 2001. Later Nimrod says it would be five years… what would make 2006.
The second part of the story takes place three years later this would mean 2007.

The Forge is back

The Doctor and Evelyn are going back to heal Cassi from her vampire existence. So she can go back to see her son. Her son is actually Thomas Hector Scofield. The seventh Doctor meets him and travels with him and Ace under the name Hex.
Of course it is not so easy. The Forge already had their claws in Cassi. Also the Forge wants to experiment with the Doctor and his regeneration.

In the second part of Project: Lazarus the seventh Doctor arrives at the Forge and meets the sixth Doctor. Apparently he works for the Forge. You don’t know why or what happened to Evelyn. Even the seventh Doctor doesn’t know what is going on. So he tries to find out and save everyone.

Underlining sadness

This story has again this underlining sadness in it. It is no wonder that Evelyn is so tired. She goes through a lot in this last adventure with the Doctor. Like the last adventures there is a certain darkness to their stories. It breaks my heart.
The second part is harder to describe. The Doctor is on is own and the sadness is not from the beginning in it. But it starts crawling back and in the end the Doctor seems tired like Evelyn was.

Listing or not

Project: Lazarus is not what I excepted. I hoped for a different story for Cassi. So I am a little disappointed in the story. It is not a bad story but I don’t get warm with it. Cassi is such a great character and it is sad that her story only goes over the first two episode and the last are just about the Doctor. So I don’t know. Listen to it or not… it is part of the trilogy and so I need to her it.

Hunter X Hunter

Hey Guys,

welcome to one of my favorite Manga series finally on DVD in Germany – Hunter x Hunter. There are two versions of this series. Nippon Animation produced in the year 1999 62 episodes of the Manga-Hit. Personally I like the old series more than the new on from 2011. Madhouse produced them and made 148 episode which includes every Arc from the Manga. Here we are talking about the new version of Hunter X Hunter.

Better than nothing?

Like I said before I love the first version of the series. It is not sooo close to the Manga than the new one. The old series played a little more with the scenario. I loved the other parts of the exam. The new version is not bad. The Animation is great and the story is great too. How could it not? Because this new version is a lot closer to the original than before – sadly they kinda left the whole part with Kaito out . We see the characters we love in exactly the same situations, with the same reaction that we loved. So the story is still great and made me want to reread the Manga.

Gon and his amazing journey

Hunter x Hunter is the story about Gon and his friends. Gon is a young boy who wants to find his father. Kaito is a Hunter Gon meets and who tells him that his father is a Hunter and still alive, but that he doesn’t want to be found. So Gon declares that he will become a Hunter and find his father. On this way Gons nice and also a little naive character makes it easy for him to find friends. Once a friend Gon will give everything for them.
In the Anime sometimes you think ‘Gon your are a Mary Stu’. But you just have to love him.

Friends for ever

Gon is not alone on his journey. On the first test he meets Leorio and Kuparika. Leorio wants to become a Hunter to get money. Really fast you find out that Leorio has a good heart and is a lot more than he lets on. From all the people we met in this adventure Leorio is the most normal person but that doesn’t stop him. Kuparika is the only survivor of his clan. He wants to become a Hunter to get revenge. These three built a team from the start and I love them and the trust and respect they develop really fast for each other.
Later there is another person that becomes a part of the team – Killuah. Killuah is in the same age as Gon and likes him from the start. He comes from a family of assassin and his already a really good one. He gets really fast bored. When he meets the group Killuah wants to be more than an assassin.

Watching or not

I just have the first Box-Set with 13 episodes. But they are good and solid. The characters are great and have amazing chemistry between them. I think that the Anime is worth watching it. Maybe you like the new one more than the old one or the other way around. But one thing is clear the story is amazing. So watch the series or read the Manga. The story is totally amazing. I love four babies and are happy to follow their adventures on their way to fulfill their dreams.

DW: And the Pirates

Hey Guys,

welcome to most ridiculous, musical and heartbreaking story I heart in a long time. Doctor Who and the Pirates is the 43rd adventure of the Big Finish Main Range with the Doctor and Evelyn. This story is playing in the Caribbean Sea in the 18th century. Ahistory is placing it around 1705 and also it takes place in London 2003.

Tell me a story

And the Pirates is a little bit different from the most Doctor Who stories. Evelyn is visiting one of her students, which is not very happy about her visit. She starts telling her a story about pirates. The Doctor later helps her to tell story.
It seems that something bad is happening in this story. Because Evelyn has trouble telling the story. She seems sad and tired. So the Doctor decided to lose the dark touch and starts to sing parts of the story.

Roller coaster

The banter between Evelyn and the Doctor when the try to tell a story. The way the change the story and discuss it is quiet fun. The atmosphere is amazingly funny when the Doctor starts singing. But the in between is dark and sad and hard to describe it is more in the background. You can’t really understand what this sadness is. But is still there the whole story.

And the pirates is an amazing story. I love every single bit of it. It is ridiculous at some points. Evelyn trying to make different voices to tell the story or the Doctor singing. It is so much fun to listen to the story. But still you can’t lose this feeling, this sadness. You asked yourself till the end why the Doctor and Evelyn tell her student that story.
Just listen to it. It is an amazing sad story with fun parts.
And the pirates is a story about life without any excuses. It is sad, it is fun and it ends just like life.

DW: Jubilee

Hey Guys,

welcome to the Jubilee with a big firework and an execution of the last Dalek in the story Jubilee. It is the 40th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range with the sixth doctor and Evelyn, who lands in 2003 in a divergent timeline.
This story is later used by Robert Shearman as basis for the story ‘Dalek’ in the Doctor Who TV series.

Split up

The TARDIS isn’t working probably. The Doctor and Evelyn gets in a way split in two. The story plays in 2003 and this is were the Doctor and Evelyn land. But when they left the TARDIS she vanished and reappear in 1903 when the Daleks tried to invade the earth. The problem with that is that another version of the Doctor and Evelyn are in there and prevent the invasion. The united Kingdom become ruler of the earth. Which change the whole timeline.

All crazy

This story Jubilee is crazy. All the characters excepted the Doctor and Evelyn and the Dalek. Everyone else is mad. There is not on character you can indicated yourself. The way the people sees the world is crazy and wrong in so many ways. The story is about torture and it is just not mine. It has a lot of strong parts. Evelyn talking with the Dalek is amazing. The Doctor holds a speech at the end and this is just amazing. But everything around it is just to crazy for me.

Listen to it or not

Jubilee is difficult to decide if I want to recommend it or not. The storyline of the Dalek is amazing and I really loved the TV series episode ‘Dalek’. It is amazing. I really loved these parts but then there are all the other characters that are all just mad. It is really hard to listen to it. So if you liked the episode ‘Dalek’ and can deal with madness go and listen to this story. Be excited for the Jubilee.

DW: Neverland

Hey Guys,

welcome to the land that never was with people who never were in the story Neverland. The 33rd adventure of the Big Finish Main Range the eighth Doctor and Charley meets President Romana II who wants to stop the Time Crisis which started with the survival of Charley on the R101 (Storm Warning).
This adventure is just the first part and will be continued in the story Zagreus.

Team up

I am a big fan of Romana II. How much I loved her in the classic stories and I love that she become President. Her adventures as President (Gallifrey) interest me and even more after I read the book Shadows of Avalon. Now we can listen to her meeting the eighth Doctor and Charley. It is so much fun to listen to them working together. Also there are more Time Lords involved in this story and you all know how much I love stories with them.

AntiTime

It is way to complicated to explain the whole theory of AntiTime in my own worlds. But there is this sentient that comes into our universe through a gateway and destroys the boundaries of time. This gateway is Charley. So Romana plans to go through this gateway and fight these people there and maybe even find something important to the Time Lords.
There is a lot that is different from what seems at the beginning of the story. We will find out another dark chapter of the Time Lords.

Listing or not

By Rassilon go and listen to the Neverland. It is so good to listen to Romana and the Doctor working together again. The mystery around Charley Pollard started with the story Invaders of Mars is getting explained and maybe the story will end well or it will end in a disaster. We will find out in the second part of the story Zagreus.

DW: The Time of the Daleks

Hey Guys,

welcome to the new history with the Dalek as the ruler of earth in the 32nd adventure of Big Finish Main Range – The Time of the Daleks. It is another story with the eighth Doctor and Charley. It takes place in London, New Britain in the years around 2050s. Also it is the fourth part of ‘Dalek Empire‘. You don’t need the knowledge of the other stories but it is part of a four episode long Story (The Genocide Machine, The Apocalypse Element, The Mutant Phase and The Time of the Daleks) and get it own spin-off.

Shakespeare biggest fans

The story starts with the Doctor find out that Charley doesn’t know who Shakespeare is. We remember that in the story ‘Invaders of Mars‘ Wells didn’t know Shakespeare either. So yeah this is the story were a lot of the hints get explained. The leader of New Britain Mariah Learmann makes a deal with the Daleks. The Daleks are apparently fans of Shakespeare. So Learmann helps them to repair their ship and they help her save Shakespeare.
That sounds like fun, doesn’t it?!

A nice change

The other stories were quiet dark. This is not a light story but it is more fun the others. Just the thought of Daleks being fans of Shakspere or Daleks moving around and quote him. It makes the story lighter than the others before. Because the rest is obviously rather serious. Also in this story is a little bit more action than in ‘Embrace the Darkness‘. Daleks don’t talk long they just act. That is one reason I love them. Most bad guys just talk and talk and you think that if they would stop talking they may succeed.
In the TV-series I often found myself thinking that Daleks became a joke. But here the Daleks are rather out numbered and out gunned but they not afraid because they are still superior. You don’t need an army. One Daleks is more than enough.

Listing or not

‘The Time of the Daleks’ is a good story. It makes clear that there is a bigger problem and the Daleks are using this. The Daleks are on their best. This makes fun to listen too. Daleks quoting Shakespeare made my day. So yeah go listen to it.

DW: Embrace the Darkness

Hey Guys,

welcome to 31st adventure of Big Finish Main Range – Embrace the Darkness. It is again an adventure with the eighth Doctor and Charley. It takes places at Cimmeria IV there is no date given and my favorite source doesn’t put it to the ‘important’ stories.

Educational Reasons

This is a story I love. The Doctor wants to avoid a group of Time Lords so he lands near the planet Cimmeria IV. They are drifting through time and watch the changes of the planet. It was once a beautiful and colorful planet and then the light just goes out. The Doctor doesn’t know the reason behind and things why not watch if they find out what happened.
There is no other reason than pure curiosity.

They take the light

The story as a quite dark atmosphere. The story plays a lot in the darkness. The characters are not able to see and the situation seems for them rather hopeless. There are creatures with this whispering voice. You don’t know who they are or what they want. Just that they take the lights. Between all that they have to deal with a rescue robot who makes their life a lot harder than it has to be.

Listing or not

Listen to ‘Embrace the Darkness’. I love stories like this. It is a mystery that needs to be solved and it did get solved. Slowly step for step you understand more what is going on. It is nice to listen to this adventure. Also we find a few hints of the future stories that come up.

DW: Season of Fear

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 30th adventure of Big Finish Main Range – Season of Fear. The Doctor and Charley traveling through the times of britain in this story. It plays in 305, 1055 and 1806 also on the 31st december 1930 in Singapore. The reason that Charley was on the R101 was that meeting with the young Alec Grayle. When Charley goes on her date, the Doctor meets a man who is immortal and claimed to had killed the Doctor.

Tell it in our own words

This story is told from the Doctor to someone we don’t know or better we just don’t know who he is talking to. So there are this moments that are told from the Doctors view. It makes the jumps in time more easier to follow and understand what is going on in this story. The atmosphere is quite dark. The possible death is hanging over his head and he tries to find out what is going on.

Promise of Immortality

Grayle comes in contact with aliens that promising him immortality. It is hard for me to understand why he chooses to become immortal. Immortality is more a curse than a blessing. You understand more and more about the reasons for the actions of Grayle. Of the disappointments he had to face. We see how all the years change him until nothing of the original person is left.
It is quite an interesting journey.

Listing or not

Definitely go and listen to it. It is a good story and the journey of Grayle is interesting and a little bit similar to the story of ME just with a better outcome or more interesting outcome. There are also little mentioned of things that are explained in the later stories. Small hints of the overall storyline which started with the adventure Invaders of Mars.

DW: The Chimes of Midnight

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 29th adventure of the Big Finish Main Range – The Chimes of the midnight. The eighth Doctor and Charley lends in 1906 London inside a Edwarian House and in mystery they need to solve. Before I listend to it I already heart a lot of this story. How good and well loved it is. It was so good that they actually re-released as a vinyl version.

Darkness everywhere

The Doctor and Charley lands in that House but it is dark – really dark. There are a few mysterious things like a name in the dusk that can’t be removed. Charley writting her name in the dusk and it vanished as she never written it. That is just the start.
The next time they find each other in a murder scene. The servant Edith Thompson got drowned in the sink and the other servants are knowing the Doctor as the inspectore of Scotland yard.

Darkness coming back

This story is a dark one. It is not particalor horror but you can feel the darkness everywhere. The atmosphere they are created with really simple things is quite dark and mysterious. I for one didn’t expecting this out of the story. It is a mystery that needs to solved and you try to find out with the Doctor together. It is not a fun story it is dark and full of death and sadness and ill treating of people.

Listing or not

This story is amazing and one of the best I heart from the eighth Doctor and Charley. It is dark and mysterious and you can investigate next to the Doctor what is actually going on. There are enough close. But as so many stories like that I didn’t get them. The second time you listing to it, you asked yourself how you can miss all that. So yeah go and listen to The Chimes of Midnight.

The Omega Factor: The Hollow Earth

Hey Guys,

welcome to the last part of the first box set of The Omega Factor – The Hallow Earth. After I listened to all of them I got asked which one I liked the most and I couldn’t decide between this one and the second one – The old gods. So it is a great story and totally shows me why I love these characters so much.

Gone Missing

A lot of homeless people are missing. They were last seen in the church. To prevent becoming the suspect the church is asking Anne and Adam for help to find out what is going on. So what is going on in this story. They are mysterious noises and Tom researched that churches are built on places that have specific energy. Maybe can even built gateways between earth and hell?

Churches are creepy

What is the best about the story are the characters. It is amazing to see Anne and Adam work together but the most I love the way Adam see the church. Churches give him the creeps and has not the best opinion about church. Which is not so far from my one opinion. I think that church and believes are really powerful things and that they can be very dangerous at times.

Listing or not

Definitely go and listen to this story. It is great. They way the characters interact with each other is awesome. What I like the most about it is that we have these two people from the church believing in something bigger – believing in god. Than we have Anne who believes in sciences and doesn’t believe in god and then there is Adam I am not sure he knows what he is really believing in but it is definitely not god. They all witness the same things but they see them very differently and they don’t change their opinion. I really love this one.
